Honestly, Lynn? I don't think it has enough 'funk' for you. It's nice but not great, IMO. Your house has a certain vibe and that's not it. Now maybe changing out the hardware to something rustic will help, along with putting some of your personal quirky touches on top, but I'm not sure it won't look a bit incongrous then. I'm just not feeling it. Even though you want closed storage, I think you need someting a bit less blocky.

Hmmm, well that's something to consider. I definitely would replace the hardware with more rustic ones. I'd also probably use the hand woven Chimayo runner and lamp that's on the sofa table now. As for one with legs, we need the extra storage for cookbooks, phonebooks and dvd's too much. I'd found another console locally, but it was handmade, black, too expensive and those pieces usually quickly crack in our dry climate. They don't let the wood dry out enough before making furniture with it.
Here's a pic of our tv lift console in a showroom (with side pieces that we didn't get). It has a definite Traditional look to it, too. So, now what do you think?

In all honesty, I'm not liking this piece. It looks too much like office furniture to me. And for that price, I think you can do a lot better. (Sorry!)

Respectful disagreement, dlm. I think Lynne's furniture (and kitchen cabs) are classic/traditional in line, and the 'funk' comes in via the architectural features, which are already built into the house and thus don't have to be tweaked at all, and via accessories, which is easily done.

I like the Ethan Allen piece with your other things, and changing out hardware is no big deal... I'd go for it. I think it's neutral and classic enough to visually disappear once you've got the right accessories. And the storage! you lucky girl!

Is the price perfect? No, you might be overpaying by $100 or so -- if it were $300 or under I bet you'd feel you'd gotten it for a song. But it'd be over a thousand for a new piece of that size and make, wouldn't it?

As soon as I saw it I thought it matched your tv console. I think you will be able to dress it up and make it look like it was always there. I like how it looks with the leather couch and the floor. Can't wait to see what arrangement you put on it. Oh I can picture the lamp already.

I don't know if it's the lack of funk, or the piece itself, but my vote it's not working too. As I scrolling down the page, taking in the photos of your house and the narrations, I was disappointed when I got to that piece. It's too chunky and lacking something. And I don't think hardware is the fix. Maybe you need to add something a little different to the mix, somethng besides more cherry?

Lynn I don't mean a leggy piece but even your traditional tv console is off the floor a bit - that;s what I mean. Maybe Jen's description is right - maybe it's an office-y feel that I'm getting from it.

Here's another thing I'm seeing -even though it's virtually the same depth as your current console table, it's a massive block viewed from the side, dark, as is your sofa and floor and stools and cabinets - its just seems to be too much to me. Sorry.

And all that said, your house is always one of my favorites, Lynn - you have a great sense of style so if you decide to go for it, I'm sure you'll figure out a way to make it work for you.

I don't know your house, but from what you are saying, you don't love the piece; it seems like a bargain so your head says take it, am I right? I agree with the others who think it probably isn't "you". ps I've never seen a lift console, now I want one. I live in the boonies.

I love what you have done for your house so far, but I do not love that piece for your house. Maybe it's because I've seen your fabulous pieces in your dining room, but that is a very blah furniture piece. New hardware would help, but it still wouldn't sing. I also think it is substantially overpriced. I wouldn't pay more than $250 for that particular piece.

I think you should wait.

I love your house and style too Lynn and I have to agree with the no vote. There's something about the base of it that is so bulky and probably gives it that office look. I think you can do better. Don't you hate it when you really want affirmation and you get polite disagreement? But I guess that's what we're here for :-)

I do not think it will go in the space you want to put it. The reason the white sofa table looks OK there is that it has legs and is airy. If you put a solid piece like this console in that same spot you will have a gap between the sofa and console due to the fact that the back of the sofa is at an angle. It will "look funny" from the side. That is unless you plan on putting a plant or something next to it.

I like the piece, but I think it is too formal for the rustic pieces, even with new hardware.

Well, personally I think the upper part is gorgeous, but the bottom is so heavy feeling. I think that's why I thought "no" right away, Lynn. If the price were right I'd buy it, remove that bulk and replace it with bun feet. Can you offer them less?

Lynn, sorry to join the naysayers, but it just doesn't look like it belongs in your house. Something less bulky and more rustic would fit with your other furniture. Love your house by the way.

Well here is one more vote, I don't like it either. It does look massive from the side and also has that office look. I too think you can do better.

Sorry Lynn, I agree with the majority... looks like an office credenza.

I like the console OK but not where you need to put it, I don't think there's enough room to have traffic pass in back of the stools when they're being used.

Also, I'm a bit claustrophobic and can't stand too much furniture crowded together. I like open spaces, easier to dust and sweep.

Well, my late vote is also a no. I can undestand that you want something with closed doors, but I'd really prefer to see something with at least legs to it. I actually like the lines of the one you have there now. Why not paint it black and find another location for the recipe books?

I almost never post in this forum but read it avidly...too avidly I think. In case you decide against that console and look for something new (but spendy) I have an idea for you. I think it would be great with your rustic look. LOVE your home. Not sure how to embed a pic from an online catalog here, so I'll give you the link. I have the primitive demilune and it is beautiful and well made. There is a pretty cherry cabinet too.

I love it and think it will be a great addition and storage area.

At a quick look it appears to be way too big for that space...and I mean actually as well as visually. Too big. Believe the minimum space for walking between is 3 ft. If you do find something slimmer it would be far better to be on legs that will lighten it in appearance. BTW, your kitchen is sooo gorgeous!

Personally, I like sofa tables to be open at the bottom. I think it would look really heavy right there in that walkway also. Sorry

Well, I bow to the superior wisdom of the site... but I'd at least be willing to leave a deposit, drag it back to the house, and *see* whether it's in fact too blocky. I still like it.

If you decide against it, do you have an El Paso Imports up by you? Their stuff seems very like your style, and most of their consoles/sofa tables aren't much more than this piece $$wise...

I think it's perfect for that spot and the usage you are looking for, I vote you get it.
