"My husband has raised my daughter since she was 7." Hasn't he then earned the right to not like her boyfriend? doesn't matter why, Dads can be strange that way. "Since she has moved back they are always butting heads" Probably typical of adult children living at home, chances are they are similar in alot of ways. (normally it's all the bad habits like stubborness, hotheadedness) "He won't let them sleep together in our home." Okay I know it's 2010 but understand he raised her that makes her his little girl as much as yours. I'm 31 been married for 10years and my Dad still has issues with this. I respect that. It is his home, he should not have to be uncomfortable or compromise his values. Also everyone keeps mentioning tempor tantrums, did I miss that post?? (I'm actually asking not being sarcastic) I see where OP says he has gotten HER so angry that she feels like he's pushing her away. All in all there is too much information missing to really help out in this situation. For example: Why does he think the boyfriend is a loser? Maybe he has picked up on something you haven't... Or what are the things he's complaining about on the SD? I mean is it trivial things like she ate all the cheerios or is it like she comes in all hours of the night waking him up type of stuff? The biggest question here is why are you not backing up your spouse here? (unless of course there is more than what was posted.) What he is asking for is not unreasonable. He want's respect in his home and he shouldn't be expected to compromise his values just because she has moved home. How is that stupid and or childish? Has society slid that far that we are expected to let our children bring home any partner they choose and lay with them in our homes?? If so at what age is it appropriate? To me it is a matter of values, while it may not bother some I do not find it childish nor stupid to maintain values in HIS home.

Wondering how this is going. I'm having terrible trouble keeping my boundaries with my dad as he ages. On the one hand, I don't want to be totally mean and uncaring, on the other hand, he can be super nice and you would never guess the cruelty that lies beneath, he's a Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde type of person. Dr. Jekyll can be around for days, weeks, even a month or more. Then, on a dime, Mr. Hyde shows up! He actually doesn't even remember sometimes I think when he is one person or the other. He has no memory of how horrible he has been when he's playing Dr. Jekyll, nor does he seem to remember anything good or nice when he is being Mr. Hyde. Then on the other hand, I need to keep those boundaries going because Mr. Hyde showing up is inevitable. That's the sad thing about someone with a pathological personality. They can never really change for good. They just aren't wired the same way as empathetic people. They can act empathetic and sympathetic, they can be charming. But it is for manipulation to get their needs met. They can't ever get used to considering other people's needs and feelings as equal to or above theirs. Most of the time they are barely aware of anything about anyone other than their self. So I would do the minimum and not sweat keeping those boundaries. As the old saying goes, "Ex is ex for a reason" and same goes for boundaries with pathological people. Wish as hard as you will that things could be different, but they just can't. This is the cross people have to bear who have people like this in their family and life. The hardest thing is the guilt other people try to lay on you because the person can seem sympathetic and charming, so they think you are being the mean one. So many people hold out hope that people can change, and some people can change, absolutely and I am a firm believer on people's ability to change. But sometimes you have to realize that there are just certain people who cannot. Being able to distinguish between those who can and those who can't is pretty important. Show compassion to those who can't, but keep iron clad boundaries between their dysfunctional lives and your own. Think of how many people who have had to watch as a loved ones sinks into addiction, madness and death and have tried and tried to intervene to no avail. So some people really can suffer and suffer from their own self-imposed hells and yet never let go of the dysfunctional behavior.

I should've mentioned that I found this tile after going to several tile stores - hence looking online. F&D, HD, Lowe's, The Tile Shop, Avalon Flooring - none really had anything I was strongly interested in or liked. I also mentioned I went to the Daltile studio itself to see this tile and others in person. This wasn't the only sample I got from there. The rest of my floors will be refinished hardwood, and it was suggested not to go with any faux wood product since it will look really fake (of course). Porcelain tile was chosen for waterproof abilities, durability, and mostly, maintenance. Haven't read anything that says tile is a no-no if you're going to change cabinets later. Good point on the lighting. The bulbs came with the house, and I liked the lighting, so didn't consider changing them. Now I might.
