Need help with tile flooring in white/coastal style kitchen!!
Comments (8)If sunlight will dwell on the tile for a portion of the day, the darker one will collect and retain heat better--more useful for passive solar--free heat! Even in summer the dark color will take in the heat and tame the air heatup and will release the heat at night when the air is cooler--to even out the day/night disparity in summer rooms. (Plus you should shade those south-facing windows in summer--honeycomb shades? landscaping? overhang? etc.) And in summer you can put a seasonal rug over the dark tile to cut down on heat retention if the floor seems overly warm in places where sunlight touches it....See MoreNeed help deciding white or dark kitchen cabinets with tile floor
Comments (16)With the open concept, I don't think it matters that one corner of one room has dark cabinetry. You can have light walls and backsplash. Which floor plan are you doing? I prefer the first tile. It looks like it's got gray and beige, which will be easier to work with than the peachy tones of the travertine. That's kind of a Tuscan tile, which was popular in the 90s and still, unfortunately, is hanging around in tile shops. My goal would be to tone down the reds of the Bordeaux by letting the granite be the warmest element in the room. Ideally you want to go look at slabs and bring a sample of both floor tiles and the cabinet doors. You'd want to pick a slab that has a lot of cream like this one....See MoreNeed Help with Kitchen Plank Tile Flooring Installation Issue
Comments (6)Hire a pro. There are other issues with your job as well. Not just the spacing issue. But the spacing issue says that the planning and knowledge level isn't there. Too much mortar creeping up between the tiles. Did he use medium bedding mortar? Or thinset? What leveling system? What substrate? Preparation for substrate? How much SLC was used to get the floor flat? Lippage is a factor here. Tile like this is challenging even to Pro. Get a good one and start over....See MoreNeed help matching kitchen and foyer tile to wood floors
Comments (17)Tiger wood is often a factory finished product. And just to make things interesting, the name 'Tiger Wood' is not due to a species...it is a 'look' based on the heavy striation in the wood. Are you floors site finished (completely flat...no bevels/valleys between each and every plank)? Or were they factory finished? Can you show us a photo of your chosen marble for the counter tops?...See MoreI'm Nicety
