Wood floor in kitchen not matching adjacent wood floors?
Comments (16)wow, thanks for all the help! I can see that the different adjacent woods look good in your posted pictures only because they are quite differentn from each other, not sure that I want to go too light on the new wood because it would be to "blendy" with the white cabinets. A border is an interesting idea but my kitchen might be too small to be able to pull that off, I have an approx 10 x 13 U shaped kitchen with an adjacent 10 x 8 breakfast area. I appreciate the comments to consider that the lighting in the kitchen might be quite different from the hallway. That is true but I did not think of the hallway as being dark until we had the flooring changed and it surprised me how much darker it was after the flooring change. I'm going to find some dark brown tarps to put on the kitchen floor and see what that feels like. thank you!...See MoreWood floors or tile in foyer?
Comments (21)When my house was being built in TX, I was still living in CA. Every day my DS would come over and tell me what had been done and sometimes take a few pictures. The initial plan called for hand scraped wood in the DR, kitchen/eating area, and great room. When he called me one day, he asked if I had changed my mind about the foyer~seems they had installed the wood by mistake and were willing to throw it in free of charge. I had always wanted black(black absolute)/white(creama marfil)marble and said if I ever built again I would have it. The builder was shocked when I called the next day and told him to rip out the wood. I had the marble installed and absolutely love it. It was laid on the diagonal, and it's a very traditional, but beautiful floor. ;o)...See MoreWood look tiles in foyer and slate look in kitchen?
Comments (2)We can't get that tile anymore, and like the wood (or wood look!) better for the foyer area. I'm not ripping the tile out, it was too much $ and is awesome, it never really looks dirty! I can't imagine the project of removing it ever....See MoreDoes wood kitchen cabinets need to match dining sets?? HELP first time
Comments (5)@Janelle rVarathane Kona might be a good option it still has some red undertones so it would be a warmer brown. Ebony would defiantly make it darker and be a bit more matchy/matchy with the table. Or you can throw caution to the wind and do a Weathered Gray- this one you would have to strip the cabinets to bare wood in order for it not to look weird. Rustoleum has Dark Walnut that might be pretty as well and then again throwing caution to the wind there is a color called SunBleached which would be very similar to your flooring. Minwax has a lot of mixable colors as well. The downfall to mixable is there is always room for error- meaning if you run out, even if they use the same formula there is a chance that it could be different one can to another. what i would suggest is to figure out what wood species the cabinets are ( based off of the pictures I would guess Alder or Hickory, they seem to have a lot of variations in the tone) and test out the colors in your kitchen. IMO I would go darker- I think the darker colors like the Kona or maybe even an Espresso would really make the floor and the counter top POP! And if you decide to paint them Prep work is key! From experience taking the extra time to prep the cabinets and make sure they are super clean before painting is the difference between wow and oh no! Good luck! And post pix when you have it finished i would be curious to see what you decided!...See MoreSammy
