Need help with floor tile for new kitchen
Comments (8)I don't think you need dark flooring just because you have white cabinets. If you google "grey tile with white cabinets" you can find examples of various shades of grey tile paired with white cabinets (found several on Houzz right off) to see what appeals to you. Personally, I like it, but I'd also like it if the flooring was just a tad darker, but not so dark that it clashes with the adjacent dark wood flooring....See MoreNeed help with Tile for my black and white kitchen
Comments (3)I kind of like your vinyl floor. Why not play keep it if it's good shape and play up the whole retro theme. Replace the stools with those ribbed chrome ones and upholster with red vinyl, and paint your chairs shiny black with a fun black red, and white large scale floral print from the 80's on the seats. You can also replace the chairs with molded plastic ones from that era. IKEA has some that aren't expensive, and add a print seat cushion. You can add matching or coordinating curtain panels on either side of your window to also add color and pattern. I would replace the dining table with a glass top over a polished chrome base. If you have the storage room, you can replace the doors on the cabinets on each side of the range with glass doors and have brightly colored dinnerware there. Just have the doors you have routed. You have so many retro elements already I would add more and make it like you mean it, and go with a fun look....See MoreAt last. Coastal inspired white kitchen is DONE.
Comments (23)I am so glad that I stopped back to the GW forum today and did not miss your post. I am a huge fan of all things costal inspired. There are so many elements that are just breathtakingly gorgeous in their own right, but even more so when grouped together. I love the blue on the ceiling, the marble counters, the door treatments to the laundry, the large and numerous windows, the pebbles, the whitewash siding, the lights, and the kitchen table. This is all from memory after first glance...now I have to go back and really look again. Congratulations on a creating a very calm, cohesive, beautiful space!...See MoreNeed help picking tile for kitchen floor!
Comments (6)@herbflavor Thank you for your comment! I have also considered hardwood floors in the kitchen, but I am loving the idea of tile in here to give the space a European vibe, if that makes sense. We have radiant heat on our first floor so I love the feel of the heat underfoot on the tile...just a personal preference. The floor to ceiling inset cabinetry flanking the doorway to the mudroom is original and in wonderful shape so we will be keeping those. They will be painted to match the new cabinetry. Unfortunately the island, desk and the cabinetry on the opposite wall are in terrible shape and will be replaced. We are flip flopping the location of the stove and sink and the fridge will also move so we need new cabinetry anyway. The entire first floor including the mud room hall will be getting new paint (Benjamin Moore Swiss Coffee or White Dove) so the rooms will lighten up considerably. We are also adding vertical paneling under the shaker peg rail in the mudroom to add some architectural detail....See Moremtnrdredux_gw
