I bought my first dr chandelier 20 years ago at the Brimfield flea market for $5.00. It was pretty, but some of the plating was worn off, and it was on the small side for the room. I became obsessed with finding a new chandelier, but as soon as I would settle on one I'd find some objection.
I posted a few days ago about finally buying a $12.00 chandelier at Lowes. The very next day, I found what I had always wanted on Craigslist- brass, Pottery Barn, transitional.
Today our Jack-of-all-trades came to install it. He was very taken with the old chandelier, said it was very good quality, better than Pottery Barn. I told him to go ahead and take it, but he wouldn't because he thought it was too nice. My head was starting to blow open.
Now I'm having trouble getting the arms of the new one to balance and it looks crooked.
He broke my make-up mirror installing new bathroom lights, and I love that d!!@#$% mirror. I looked at our downstairs mirror to help me decide what to buy new, and I knocked over a large apothecary jar I particularly like and broke that too.
Please, if you care, send chocolate.

Oh dear. Well look at it this way, with the broken mirror, this bad luck will only go on for another 7 years.

Except the mirror itself isn't broken. It is the plastic piece that holds it to the base. I am trying to glue it (ya, right!).
Annie, I appreciate your humor! Please people, pour it on.
Is it possible that in Brimfield, 20 years ago, knowing nada,I bought something nicer than I could buy today? Also, don't forget the Lauren Ralph Lauren apothjecary jar that was just the right size, shape, and color for the space.

Hi Velvet, Thank you so much for your reply. I have been trying to watch her, but I still not 100% sure if she is egg-binding or brooding... (thanks for your link. It's really helpful!) All I know is she opens her eyes while she is sitting, may lost a bit weight, but hard to tell since I don't pick her up usually... Once in a while, I see her breathing hard like right after she lays egg, but not all the time. Her vent feather is a bit dirty. Didn't think she looked sick... I went ahead and mixed up live oil, karo and milk and fed her some of it. When I opened one of our egg collecting door which allow me to reach her w/o going inside of the coop, she didn't move much. When I tried to feed the mix, she moved her necks a lot, but didn't stand up. Finally I tried to pick her up, she stood up and try to go away from me. Her abdomen didn't look distended too me. I touched around it, but didn't feel any egg (do I need to squeeze hard to feel egg??) She is a pretty fluffy bird (look a lot bigger than another Cuckoo Maran I had before). I will try to take her picture tomorrow w/day light and post it here since it's pretty dark outside now. Thanks!! -b

Sounds like a wonderful day. Hang gliding is something I've always wanted to try but never gotten to. I understand it is best left to the more athletic, not to mention coordinated people. So glad you enjoyed it.

Thanks Annie, I'm happy to know I'm not the only one. I think I will cut the pears up finer to be more like a jam. That's the kind I remember from childhood. They were really thick and dark but not too much syrup. Gonna try again this weekend, but I'm still enjoying the ones I've already canned. They are OH SO GOOD on toast, even if they are a bit runny, which of course I end up dropping on my shirt! Wonder how the "pear honey" would taste over vanilla icecream? Got to give it a try. Looks ok to me. Ran into my former landlady a couple of days ago. She fell for a similar scareware scam and was told to contact the number listed on the pop-up. She did, and ended up giving her SS#, and her credit card info. Next thing you know, charges were run up on her credit card, and new accounts were opened in her name. She has spent the last 3 weeks trying to undo this identity theft. If you haven't done so already and you have a separate anti-virus program (Norton, Symantec, Kaspersky, etc.) - run an update to download the latest virus definitions, and then initiate a system scan of your computer with these updated definitions.

Poor, poor baby. It is definitely time for something chocolate and decidedly decadent. Then, cruise ebay looking for a replacement jar while you continue to alleviate the pain with more chocolate.

I'm probably not making sense.
When I'm not decisive, it's because my subconscious is telling me something. Probably, in this case, that I loved my old fashioned grungy chandelier. Otherwise, I wouldn't have bought it, even for $5.00.
The new one is good, so long as I can get it to balance. I'll get used to it. Dh and Dd both like it.I'm keeping the old one.
The other stuff definitely gets filed under "not my day".

Sorry you've had such a day sonicmom, but yes, it is possible the $5 chandy was a quality piece. Definitely keep it for another room and don't forget that you can always have it replated..........maybe in a different metal color.

A new day!
I fiddled with the chandy last night until I got it to balance, and, looking at it this morning with fresh eyes, I'm really pleased. It looks like it belongs in the room. Dd and dh like it, too.
I found the exact same make-up mirror on Amazon (thought they'd been d/c'd years ago).
Homegoods is full of cute apothecary jars and now I have an excuse to go shopping at Homegoods.
Sorry for posting my meltdown, but I didn't think dd or dh understood why I was upset about a new chandy when I'd been looking for one for so long. And the other stuff.

Haha..no worries. We are all entitled to have a melt-down every once in a while.

If you have trouble getting the arms to balance, try putting a heavy washer or nut on the high arm if there is a place to hide it. We hope you plan to post a photo of before and after. :)

Bee - That chocolate martini reminds me of one that we had on a ship once. I had to go to bed early after drinking that thing. It was SO good!

It had chocolate and something really strong in it. That's all I know. :)

Found this recipe from the cruiseline.

THE CHOCOLATE MARTINI

1/2 OZ VODKA

3/4 OZ GODIVA CHOCOLATE LIQUER

1/4 OZ KAHLUA

1/4 OZ BAILEYS

IN A MIXING TIN SHAKE INGREDIENTS W/ 3 OZ OF CREAM OR MILK

STRAIN INTO MARTINI GLASS.

(DO IT LIKE A PROFESSIONAL & TAKE SOME CHOCOLATE SYRUP & SWIRL THE INSIDE OF MARTINI GLASS BEFORE STRAINING IN DRINK). CHEERS!!!!!!!!

I'm with you, bronwynsmom. I'm a single malt scotch and water girl with some nice wine now and then, but right now I'll take 2 of those chocolate Martinis. It's been that kind of day. That kind of month, really.

(Actually, it sounds perfectly awful, but I can see why it's popular. I don't have much of a sweet tooth, so I'm often accused by my friends of being from some other planet.)
