I'm Queen of bargain hunting and the internet was a godsend for my remodel. I've gotten everything from mosaic murals to a Jacuzzi steam shower, a glass vessel sink/vanity, a set of antique marble-topped servers - one of which I converted into a vanity sink, and six lime green leather chairs that match my granite slab table perfectly. All at a fraction of what they would have cost elsewhere (if they could even be found!!)

Even though my budget is large for this remodel, I've still worked my buns off to find deals to stretch those dollars even further. I've been an ebay aholoic for years :) and did quite a bit of shopping there. I purchased our onyx sink ($1,200 here in the shop) for $170 plus shipping, totalling $240) and it's a show stopper. My marble mosaics were all bargains, and the toilet for our powder room was $399 online instead of $1000 that was wanted in the plumbing store. Both required I pay shipping (which was $400) but even at around $900 total for that toilet, I'm still way ahead of the $1,400 that I would have paid locally.

My antique lighting is probably the best buy's I've found, with the kitchen lighting (1921 Riddle slip shade fixtures) coming from ebay at $500 each. The antique store price averages about $2,200 each for the same pieces.

No matter what your budget it's fun (IMHO) to find bargains and allows those other dollars saved to go elsewhere. I'm hoping to save enough on the job to expand our deck to double it's size (should be about $20,000 to do so). We'll see how that goes LOL Probably just a dream, but worth shooting for!

Love finding deals for my remodel! Use Ebay alot to buy lighting (Murray Feiss) and plumbing fixtures (Pegasus) and even bought my Jacuzzi Whirlpool bath via ebay $300!! A friend of mine picked it up for me in Richmond, Va because he traveled that way alot to visit family.

Lowe's is my next favorite place for deals. When they have markdowns. I bought 2 French Doors for $150/ea. - 2 Pella storm doors (NIB) for $10/ea. and 3 polyvinyl designer screen doors for $5/ea.!! Bought all stainless steel appliances there as well on deep deep discount as well.

My best adventure is buying all my kitchen, bath and laundryroom cabinetry from the Kraftmaid warehouse in Lordstown. Spending $60-$95 on most base, upper and vanities. My huge double door pantry with pullouts -$135!! ;^) . Cabinets are hickory and cherry. (you can find out more about Kraftmaid warehouse by searching these forums).

The savings of these finds and doing the remodel ourselves makes it easier to justify some up the upgrades we have made like adding a wet/dry central vac system.

Finding these bargains has been the fun part of a long remodeling project. Happy hunting fellow bargain hunters!

Ooooh Oooh, I love bargain hunting! I got an Andersen arched window that sells at HD for $1900 for $225. If you are in the Cincy OH area, there is a warehouse that buys returns from big box stores at auctions and resells for incredibly cheap. I did have to spend two hours digging through hundreds of windows to find the right size, though. And I needed a tempered window and had to take a magnifying glass to the bottom to see if it said "tempered" on the glass. None of the windows had boxes, but the 2 hours was well worth it.

What is the name of the place in Cincy? I would love to check it out!

Pease Warehouse. It's in Hamilton and they have great prices on lots of things, especially windows. The big picture windows are priced particularly well, but they also have Andersen double hungs which are about 1/2 the price of retail. Be prepared to dig though! You can also find some decent prices on toilets, vanities, tile, etc. Good luck!

Yes! Walked into my local Sears not too long ago and right in the middle of the clearance aisle was a $1700 electric wall oven marked down to $350. Put money down on it immediately. It works great and is in excellent cosmetic condition. Sometimes you're in the right place at the right time!
