Congrats! I know from experience how hard it is....although I cannot imagine smoking 3 packs a day. That must be very hard....what do you do with your hands with all that "free time"?? :)

I am so proud of you, Jamie!! That is such an accomplishment. You should be very proud of yourself. What are you going to do with all the money you save from not smoking 3 packs a day? You should put that money in an accessible place and buy yourself something nice.

I agree that you should be putting that money aside for something special or just a rainy day fund. It is surprising how much we spent on those things!

That's freakin' awesome! I quit smoking 2 1/2 years ago, after smoking for 33 years. It was the hardest thing I've ever tried, and accomplished. I'm so happy for you!!

And hope you are finding peace over the loss of your daughter. I cannot begin to imagine. You are one strong person.

Enjoy your extra money. Each month on the anniversary of my quit date, I buy myself a present; on the yearly anniversary, I get a big present. I quit 6-1/2 years ago, and DH says it was cheaper when I smoked because my presents keep getting bigger. LOL

I am so proud of you! Cigarettes got both my Dad (1998) and Mom (this past january). Please do something to celebrate-go out for dinner, buy yourself a gift. Congratulations on 4 months of freedom!

Keep it up. I was also a 3 pack/day smoker, and it's been over 10 years since I quit cold turkey.
You know you're really over it when you can smell cigarette smoke and it disgusts you.

Yeah you!! I've never been a smoker. My mom and dad were heavy smokers and I just remember almost throwing up with the smell in the car. That being said, if I ever were a smoker, I don't know if I would ever have the willpower to stop it. I know how terribly addicting it is. GOOD FOR YOU!! Can you tell a difference in your health?

Kat, my son Lance is attending a little community college here close to home, and is working in the meat dept. at Sam's. He's doing good, stays busy with his girlfriend--lol. As for what to do with my hands, well, I chew on lots of straws---lol! Again, thank you all, it WASN'T easy.

That's wonderful. You are a very strong person. So very sorry about your daughter, and glad you survived the heart attack. Can you tell us how you stopped smoking and if you still feel the urge to smoke, or is your determination still strong?

That is a GREAT accomplishment!! Keep up the good work! Definitely think of all the extra money you'll be saving. You should figure out the weekly, monthly costs and I bet you'll be shocked!

Socks, I kinda had no choice. Feb. 10th I had a bad heart attack. The Dr. told my family 4 out of 5 people that have one that bad, don't survive. I had 100% blockage in one artery, and 90% in the other. Wake up call. I was in the hostital a week, ICU for 4 days. I had no choice to stop. I was scared to go home cause I was afraid I'd start again. But I guess after a week in hosp. the REALLY BAD urge was gone. Now, 4 months later, I still get a craving, but it passes. I just tell myself, I've gone this long, I can do this.

Jamie, I am so very proud of you. You are one of the strongest most courageous women that I have ever known. I think of you often . You are giving your family a wonderful gift, a wife, mother, that will live a healthy life. Continue to take care of yourself.

When I quit, it was cold turkey and it was awful. For the longest I'd see people smoking and really want one, but now, it's almost repugnant to me. It seems I always sit by a smoker when we go to the boats. Sometimes I move or ask them to blow their smoke the other way.

You are my "Hero"! I don't smoke quite a pack a day, but still really need to quit! I have tried several times, but always fail. Was thinking of trying hypnosis.
