Wait....whites are all different! In some paint lines, that Bedford Gray would almost be classified as white! Did you mean white as in a stark, cold white, white, white? Or did you mean something prettier? Creamy white? Gray white? Taupe white? Whites are hard! ;)

I like the Bedford Gray from that photo and think it would go nicel with colors in your family room beyond. Are you changing the backsplash too?

On the same lines as breezy, are you going to change the countertop as well? I like the gray and since this is a refresh and I am assuming you will renovate at some point, go with something unexpected. Do you have ideas lined up for a backsplash? Will this cabinet color be tricky to match up with a granite or backsplash? Just some thoughts.

I know whites are hard! Ugh!! I hate this :D. I am changing the backsplash and the countertops as well. I'm not positive on what I'm going to do for those but I want to finish the cabinets asap since all my cupboard contents are upstairs and I'm sick of it! :)

All of the questions are reasonable, but I have a whole imagination full of where you're going with this.

I'll vote for the gray because I think it would look nice with the floor, and white can sometimes overwhelm a galley.

I was going to go with gray all along until I read on this forum that grays do not go with oak. I painted a sample piece but I don't think I really have an eye for colors - I thought it looked fine though :P

Gray is essentially a neutral so why wouldn't it look good with Oak. I think gray would look good especially tied in with your family room.
Are the appliances staying? Because trying to pick a white with the white fridge may end up with one of them looking dirty. The gray would look good with the black range and with a black fridge? - could look really good.

My vote is for grey - maybe even a little deeper than the hue you've chosen. With those vibrant accent colors, you'll get great depth illusion and the brights will pop. Even more so with a slightly deeper grey on the wall portions to show off that tile backsplash (assuming you're keeping it). I'd go white-est white on the trim (like your window) to maximize the contrast. I'd be super-careful on the trim of your counter; maybe even overcoat the paint with a clear gloss to offset the extra constant contact with the edging.

Yet another vote for gray. And if you REALLY can't decide, do white uppers and gray lowers like your inspiration picture. I don't think you can lose either way.

Oops, I just looked a little closer and realized the uppers in the pic aren't white. But it would still look good!

Wow - no votes for white yet! I thought about the white uppers and gray lowers and my hubby didn't like that idea at all. Even though I showed him some great photos! The only other reason I wouldn't do gray is because every single kitchen picture I've seen of gray cabinets has a white/off-white wall color. That seems kinda boring in a kitchen like mine with very little architectural interest. But - hopefully I can jazz things up with great accents. And, hopefully in 5-7 years we'll have a brand new kitchen. This is to hold me over :). Thanks for the help. Would love to hear from anyone who thinks I really shouldn't do gray.
Also, the fridge is going tomorrow and is being replaced with a stainless/black fridge.

I want the Martha Stewart cabinets in the color "ocean floor" which is a grey so I vote for gray. I have a color sample of the bedford gray and I like it. If you don't have a lot of natural light in your kitchen just make sure it won't look dull.

I don't have a lot of natural light - how do I keep it from looking dull?

No white walls, though! Light gray cabs with darker gray walls works. Or pale yellow walls. This will keep it bright and it works with your accent colors (My favorite colors are actually aqua and chartreuse).

Use a GOOD quality paint on those cabinets though! Fine Paints of Europe or BM, not Home Depot stuff (Behr's, Martha Stewart) - find a color and get it matched, preferably in oil.

I don't have pics, but my bedroom colors are Behr's Melted Butter walls (might be a bit too dark in kitchen - it is a very warm yellow), Behr's Flint Smoke trim and built-ins (medium gray), and Amphibian (charcoal) accent wall. Pale blue-gray ceiling (Misty Surf, I think - bought Sparkling Spring to match other grays, but was too light).

For the cabs the color "River Rock" might work - lighter than Flint Smoke, darker than Sparkling Spring. Maybe "Whisper Yellow" walls - a shade lighter than mine. Again, Behr, but BM or FPE can color match.

In my bedroom these colors appear a true gray - but you really have to try them (or any paint, for that matter) in your own space - the same paint can look totally different from one room to the next depending on lighting and sheen. Buy some sample sizes first.

I also see this with a warm white trim around doors and windows. Our white trim is Behr's Pot of Cream, but seriously, it takes 3-4 coats (on top of primer) to cover well - not worth the "savings."

I'm voting grey, as well. But if you're not sure about colors for walls, counter, back splash, etc., hold off on the actual painting until you work all of them out and you know they look good together.

I really like how that color looks, but be sure to test on a large sheet of foam board, first. Sometimes color charts have only a passing acquaintance with what's in the can. If you lke the color in the MS line, you can have it mixed in better quality paint (BM, etc.) For cabs paint quality is critical, unless you're going for an espcially hand-made look. But the first thing is to get the colors chosen as a group. Then go for the getting the paint to match the colors you like (as they look brushed out, not just on the cards with little names attached.)

I think that color will be very pretty, but without a test board you won't know if you like it in situ.

Grey. It's interesting, light-enough and not as tricky as white-white. You can make it interesting with accent color, which it sounds like you've rounded up already! It's a restful color that you've chosen.

But - it sounds as if you're maybe wanting to with white?

Thanks for all the feedback. I'm okay with going gray. I have 5 different sample cans of gray - most are a greener gray than the MS Bedford Gray. I plan on using good paint. And yes the fridge is stainless with black sides showing. We were very limited on a fridge because the space is really small. But hopefully in a few years it will be a basement fridge.
