If money is tight and you do not need it, I would not get it. Something else will come up when the time is right.
The chair is more versatile and could be used in many different areas. Just my opinion.

The desk...it would be lovely as a reception desk at your salon when you get it.

This is a tough decision! I really like both and they are great prices! It sounds like the desk would be more functional when you open up your business. I think it would be darling as a receptionist desk. I think the chair would look nice with it as well! DH is not going to like my idea- too much money! Ha! Inexpensive chairs are pretty easy to find and very reasonable to recover.

Personally I love the desk. I think it's a good investment if it's in good condition. The top needs some work. I think it's a lovely piece but then again, I love old desks. I have one in my foyer. If money is tight, and you absolutely are in love with the chair then buy it. If not just keep window shopping while you do your fence. When the time is right, you'll find the perfect piece.

I thought about the chair with the desk too but ..... ahhhhhh After this I'm done with CL for awhile.

I keep going back and forth. After I got the chair email I was all for trying to get the chair today. Now I'm thinking about the desk again.

Should I mention there's a beveled mirror for $65 that i think might look good above the buffet in foyer. Saw it over the weekend at our local flea market place. This is also playing a role in my decision making. . .

If I had to make a choice between the chair and the desk, with no other factors, I would get the desk. I just think you will have a better chance of finding another lovely chair in the future but another desk as unusual as this one will be a harder find.

Another vote for the desk -- it is lovely and so unusual in its kidney shape. And yes -- I do believe that another chair will pop up on CL.

Desk. Definitely the desk. As others have said, chairs are easy to come by. Same with mirrors. I've never seen a desk like that one, and I think it's awesome and would be absolutely perfect for your salon.

Ok the desk is a definite! If I pass it up I'll probably never see another like it. thanks guys for helping me get my head out of my ... :)
really tempted to just get the chair too. I'm going to have to see the desk in person but it could possibly even make a nice manicure/nail table. We'll see. It will be used in the salon someway, somehow.
I may go home to DH and yell,"surprise!!!"

The desk seems to be too large to fit in the space and the chair does not seems to be especially useful or decoratve in that corner, so in keeping with my new goal of not adding clutter by buying things I don't need, I'll vote with your DH and say neither!

This is just MHO. You may not share my view on clutter and you may like having a lot of things around you - I certainly used to feel that way.

Too, you can always buy a reception desk when the need arises and when it can be put in the place you want it rather than a temporary location.

elizabethzen - the desk is way to big for that spot. in the pic above that was only for the chair. the desk will have to go in one of the spare room or basement for now.

I don't like clutter. I have to tell myself that when i'm in places such as where i found the mirror. I could spend HOURS in there. I had a bunch of stuff in my arms then finally i snapped out of it and put it all back! :)

It's not a very good picture but it's the only one I have right now. The desk belonged to my Mom and she gave it to me when I bought this house 8 yrs ago.

I vote for the desk. I've never seen anything like it before and it has so much potential. It could be used as an entry table, extra storage, vanity too many endless possiblities to list. I wish I could find furniture like that out here where I live. Happy Shopping!

Desk. The chair is nice, I like the spider back, but it is nothing that you won't be able to find again. The desk is a rarer find, imo.

I am wondering, since you mentioned it, about putting the buffet in the foyer - seems like it would be too deep for the space, and make it seem kind of crowded in there.

les - I'm also wondering about the buffet. I had another thread going a couple days ago and a lot of people thought it would work there. Won't know for sure until I get it home hopefully next week. It was also suggested I move it down farther since it will interfere with the door, and center it with my closet that's on the other side.

The only other place I have room for it would be the wall on the left when you walk in the LR.

Another vote for the desk. It will be a great addition to your salon and the kidney shape is perfect to work with customers. You could probably even take this as a write off once you start up your own business so you may want to ask for a receipt. As others have said, a single chair is much easier to come by. Before finalizing what to do with that corner, first get in the buffet and make sure it works in that space, then finish the decor for that with the mirror and lamps. Only then decide what to do with that other corner. You are a lot like me and go in several different directions at once. Advice to me about 6 months ago was to slow down, take it piece by piece. Well decorated spaces take years to evolve..... If you are looking for several items on a tight budget, try checking out estate sales.

Picked up the desk and I LOVE it! Can't wait to get it home. I think it looks smaller than what i had imagined based off the dimensions she gave me. I could've had just a bad visual in mind.

Does need some cleaning up! I'll take pictures later. YAY
