Nothing does more for resale value than a kitchen update. Besides, you like to cook, so you may as well have a beautiful kitchen! Have you looked at Silestone for your countertops? It's quartz and never has to be oiled or whatever you do to granite. We had it put in last year and it's just wonderful!

I wish I could have redone our wall between the upper cabinets and backsplash (which is Silestone). It's burgundy ceramic tile but I would LOVE to have white subway tile. I love the look of it--but they have so many pretty things now for that area.

It sounds like a lot of fun, so enjoy!! And be sure to take before and after pictures.

Glenda....decorating, remodeling is good for the soul!!!It is just a nice feeling to have something new especially in the kitchen..Go for it Glenda...second the silestone for countertops as well...thinking about it for my own kitchen.

This is what the decorator suggested: Uba Tuba granite.

Uba Tuba is that greenish/black one, isn't it? We had it ordered originally and then decided on something lighter to contrast more with our cherry cabinets. Went with "new venitian gold". LOVE LOVE LOVE our granite and it doesn't need sealing if you use the right cleaner/protector.

Uba Tuba is dark green and black..very pretty.. I always noticed the water stains etc on it.but cabinet color is a factor to be considered....My daughter in law had it....Silestone and other materials look just a s lovely not as pricey. What color cabinets Glenda...and how much light in your kitchen?

Just a little caution: How elaborate are the kitchens in the other condos in your building/area? I was grateful to a realtor-neighbor who reminded me that my plans for granite, etc. in a former home would be over the top for our neighborhood. (I wouldn't recoup the expense when I sold.)

Uba Tuba has been done a lot. I like the granite in our current house because it's a light green and requires no sealing -- or drying after wiping up.

glenda don't count out quartz, either...cleaner and no chance of radon gas emission...

Well, I'm back. Spent little over 3 hours with the decorater. She is excellent.

Picked out flooring, went with the Uba Tuba countertop, back splash, a Moen dark colored faucet, and sink.

Granite people come Thursday, to measure.

Two weeks, they come at 10, and the final touches on Friday. I'm getting really excited.

The Silestone was $10 more a square foot and I didn't care for colors, etc. Would have run me $300 more.

I am satisfied.

Wow, they work fast! What color sink/faucet did you get? Are you getting your backsplash now or later? What kind of flooring did you choose? I can't wait for pictures.

I want to replace the solid doors on two of my cabinets with glass doors this summer, but don't know if it'll happen or not.

Stainless steel double sink will have the beveled edge.

Flooring is Alloure Woodgrain floating flooring. I chose the rustic wood effect. Friend and I had looked at that several months ago, and when decorator was here, she said it would be perfect in my little kitchen. Went to Home Depot to decide on the color.

The backsplash is quartz????? Different grains and colors. Went to that place, and she said she had extra, so we didn't have to order.

She has all the people, I don't have to do a thing except clean out from under the sink.

And I certainly want to clean the area around the dishwasher when they pull it out.

Faucet she will order online and save bucks there.

All this is new and a first for me.

Wish me luck that I don't have to replace the 26 year old dish washer.

Your floor sounds beautiful! I have a SS sink, too. Mainly because it came free with the countertops. It is an undermount so I don't have that edge to keep clean. The faucet doesn't have that plate around it--just the faucet coming up out of the countertop. Sure glad I did it that way. Much easier to keep clean.

Wish I could've had someone help me with mine. I always get buyers' remorse and wonder if I've done it right!

If you use your dishwasher a lot and can do it, it'd be a good time to go ahead and have it replaced. They are so much quieter than they were back then. That in itself is worth the $$$.

patti, I don't use mine often, but I am quite sure it is not energy efficient.

Might give gal a call and see if she can help me get a good one at a discount.

Glenda, I did that recently. New door and drawer fronts, granite, tile backsplashand the cabinets are "glazed." The island is a different color from the other cabinets. I already had a tile floor, so no change there. I love it. New sink, faucet, hardwear. It makes such a difference!
