Let's Dish! Did You Watch the Flipping Out Premiere?
Contemporary Remodel Kicks off Design Show's New Season. What Did You Think?
See the latest home-makeover reveal from Bravo TV's hit design show, Flipping Out, and join me in some post-premiere dishing about Jeff and his beautiful and funny crew. If you're not already hooked on it, the show follows Jeff Lewis, a talented L.A. house flipper-turned-designer who suffers from O.C.D. and a short fuse. His loony staff puts the fun in dysfunctional — that is, when they are not being berated by their unorthodox boss who has no boundaries and tends to, well, flip out.
Take a look at the latest renovation project from Jeff, Jenni and Zoila. Even if you're not as obsessed as I am, it's always fun to see the dramatic room reveals after the human drama unfolds.

First of all, Jeff is no longer flipping houses, which makes the title of the show lose its original double meaning. However, from the previews it looks like he will continue to flip out. Now he'll also have to deal with clients, which is not always his forte. This week we were able to see Jeff's client Marlo's Studio City house go from mid-disaster to completion. Let's get a closer look at what one gets on a $30,000 Jeff Lewis budget in L.A.
Here is his client Marlo's small den (seen completed in the photos above and below) before Jeff came along; totally ho-hum. This den intervention is a great example of how to spruce up a room with minimal moves. Chocolate paint and one wallpaper accent wall completely transform the room.
I searched and searched for this modern geometric wallpaper, and then realized it was one of Jeff's designs, called Camden.
An eclectic mix of furnishings is tied together by the bold move of this accent wall.
The den opens into the family room. Meanwhile, before this happened, delays struck as Chris stalled, Sarah was unable to get demanding, and Jeff kept it together without completely flipping out.
Here we see how the small and intimate den opens into the open floor plan of the living, dining and kitchen spaces.

Here Jeff refinished the floors, added wallpaper to the entryway and painted. I'm sure he had a hand in the furniture arrangement as well.
Creating a new fireplace facade was also part of the scope of the project.
Its modern lines and wide border give the fireplace the attention it deserves without overwhelming the room.
This picture is a good opportunity to check out the newly refinished floors. The house is a great example of integrating contemporary and traditional furniture and accents that keep a warm, modern aesthetic.
High windows maximize the natural light.
Here's a closer look at the entryway. Dramatic geometric wallpaper and a hefty console table gives the entryway a presence as its own space. This print is the reverse colorway of the wallpaper used in the den, which helps tie the spaces together and provides continuity throughout the house.
Cosmetic changes in the kitchen were also part of the project's scope.
Here is the kitchen before. It's not bad, it simply does not have a contemporary aesthetic.
By replacing the countertops and hardware, painting the cabinets, and adding a new backsplash, the kitchen is transformed into a contemporary yet warm room.
The new hardware works well with the stainless steel appliances.
A glass backsplash reflects the natural and undercabinet light. I never thought of prop styling with a metal mixing bowl before, but it looks great here. I'm digging that toaster as well.
While you have tile and counter installers and painters in the house, why not spruce up the laundry room? A fresh coat of paint on the cabinets, new hardware, new counter tops and a new tile backsplash might make a person actually look forward to doing laundry.
I thought seeing this project to completion was really interesting; it showed what $30,000 could get you with Jeff Lewis Design. The scope of the project did not seem like that all that much work, but the difference the intervention made was quite dramatic.

All right, I went through the project, but what I really want to do is DISH WITH YOU! I like to pour a big wine spritzer Ramona Singer style and take notes when I watch this show, so I thought I'd share them with you.
What did you Flipping Out fans think? Who is your favorite personality? Has Jeff's therapy has paid off? What did you think of Gage? How awkward was that cocktail party in San Francisco? Was Lisa out of line or did you feel for her? Think Zoila is more scared of Gage than she was of Roomba? Do you love Jeff or hate him?
