Goldgirl, I'm sorry you haven't found this same comforter.

I'm picky about my bedding too. It doesn't have to be fancy but it has to be 100% cotton. I just sleep better. :)

What is your budget?

palimpsest - my old set was around $250. I know that sounds outrageous, but given how many years it lasted and that I could wash it myself, it was well-worth it compared to comforters I've had that fell apart. I'll gladly pay for quality.

I work part time in the Home Dept at a large dept store chain. Most of the sets nowadays are $300 -$400 and up. Ralph Lauren which has cotton comforters with nice quality sell all the pieces separately, so with sheets, decor pillows, skirt, etc. you can get over $1000. Many times though we have great sales with items at 70% off - that's the time to shop. Even the all cotton ones says dry clean only. I bought my all cotton comforther at Penneys on sale/ I work at Dillards.

goldgirl, have you tried Macy's, Bed Bath & Beyond or The Great Indoors? Also, I did a search for "cotton comforters" and there are a lot of reasonably priced white comforters available that are 100% cotton, have you considered maybe using one of those with a duvet instead? That's what we have and I love it because then we're not stuck with the same print forever. I switch ours according to the seasons and you can find alot more duvets available in 100% cotton then you can printed comforter sets. For the amount of money you're willing to invest, you could even possibly pick up an organic cotton comforter, pick out your fabric and either make the duvet/shams yourself or have them custom made. If your not a seamstress I know Calico's does custom drapery, they may even do duvets as well plus they have a great fabric selection.

Look at Macy's Online. The Martha Stewart for Macy's stuff is mostly 100% cotton, machine washable. There are some bright florals in her Bed-in-a-Bag options.

I got a Croscill queen set (comforter, bed skirt, pillow shams) for $150 (free shipping). Croscill is very well made and can cost $300 and up for the same set retail.

It is dry clean only, but we have no pets.

There are other brands to choose from so you should be able to find machine washable ones.

Also try overstock.com and sierratradingpost.com (I got a very nice matelasse summer bedspread-Columbine Cody-for about $50 there).

Our bed is the style in the photo, so I don't even need a skirt. Our wall color is close to "Harbour" on the link below (used another brand of paint but I can't remember what.)

I feel like I'm looking for the impossible with all my requirements LOL. As far as color, I like a little blue to tie in the walls, but not too much since it's so strong. I also try to avoid too much white, or totally dark, because of the dogs. We keep a blanket on top to keep the bed clean, but of course Golden hair still gets around ;)

I don't know what state you are in, but I love the comforters that are sold in Bloomingdales. Can be a little pricey, but I foung mine there. It is very hard to find bedding that is wachine washable, these days, for both adults and children (don't know why children's bedding is even dry clean, whenever my kids get sick I wash their bedding). Anyway my set is a sage color with small simple flowers. Good luck. I dread when I want to replace mine.

Do you think this one is too light to mix with dark furniture and dark blue walls? My drapes match the gold/brown tree limbs in the pattern and the carpet is a taupe color. All our trim is a soft white.

ooooh, I like that alot and think it would have a good contrast with the dark furniture. It has dark blue in it, as long as their the same hue or color family of blue, I don't think that would be a problem either. Bet it would gorgeous. So can I ask where you found this one?

Thanks everyone for your helpful input! After combing all the discount sites, I ended up ordering two comforters (was looking for my guest room, too) from Macy's. I had looked in the store, but never thought to check their Web site - it's huge! Since I've been searching for something so specific regarding fabric and color, I thought it best to be able to make a return without having to spend money on shipping. These were 20% off + free shipping, so the cost went from astronomical to not-quite-as-astronomical. But, both seem to fit the bill, are cotton and MACHINE WASHABLE!

Ordered this for our bedroom. I think it will work against my deep-blue walls and dark furniture, but brighten up the room by pulling in the our white trim.

Got this for the guest room, which has mocha walls and drapes with hints of light blue. It's a very "moody" room.
I had a Chris Madden comforter set from Penny's which had decorative tassels that started falling apart - last time I ever try that. This set has the same color range, and I'm hoping it will match the blueish sheets and brown skirt I already have. We'll see.
