Remind me why I live in ND

Is it the quality of life is so good?

Is it because its such a great place to raise children?

The cost of living is good?

Strength of economy is so good?

Education is great?

No drive by shootings and crime rate is low?

Is it because there is NO pollution?

Is it the "changing of the seasons"?

It sure ISN'T the fact that we have SNOW coming down on the 9th of May!!!!!!!!!

Even in ND this is ridiculous!!!!!!!!!!!!! Grrrrrrrr!

Well, yes, you do have that white stuff to contend with, but that will soon be over. I'm sure the good outweighs the bad. Take a look at life in the big cities and their nearby suburbs--it's not pretty!

Hang in there--spring's comin'! Here are some flowers and sun for your to look at.

Hi, divamum: It so happens that I am looking for a good home for a stainless trash can that would probably meet your needs. It is the butterfly can from Simple Human, holds 30 liters/8 gallons and is insanely expensive. I actually loved using this trash can and felt some sadness at moving into a new house with a pull-out trash cabinet. But there is no place for the butterfly and it's been sitting in our living room while I try to figure out what to do with it. (I tried to join Freecycle in my area (southern CT) and got rejected two times. Why?! But that's another story.) Anyway, it's yours for the shipping, which is probably around $25...not quite sure. Let me know. (I think I also have some extra bags for it.) It's clean and sparkling and only a couple of years old. Eileen, I got a great kick out of that. Wanna make an issue of it? Nope. I do what I do and everyone else gets to do what they want and I don't get to make other people's choices. I grow and eat my own grass fed beef, organic vegetables, pastured chickens. Why? Because I like them and because my Dad did and his Dad and his Dad's Dad. Is it healthier and a better life for my animals? Oh yeah. Double bonus. Am I ever going to be a vegetarian? Nope. Am I going to give up sugar or artificial sweetener or throw out milk the minute it hits the sell by date because the government says to? Nope. Am I going to obsess about how I might have forgotten to add a bit of citric acid to my homecanned tomatoes and stock antibacterial cleanser in every room because of germs. Nope. (Besides, I already had H1N1 last year!) I am going to continue to drink my locally roasted Paramount coffee because Michigan businesses need all the help they can get. I'm going to continue to garden and can because I like it. And I'm going to continue to grow beef because it tastes better to me. Will I change the world? Nope. Think globally, act locally. I do the best I can but I can't and don't care to "make" anyone else do it. Annie

Thanks all for the replies. The floorplan/construction was already done by the seller, so I didn't have a say in the bathroom unfortunately. There are pantries and closets - just missing in the floorplan :) As for dining area - this is a good point.. I was thinking of just using the island for dining area for now since it's just me... maybe replacing the "media" area with a dining table instead? I was actually hoping to shy away from a TV in living room altogether.. so it could work! Thank you for all the suggestions.

Can we see the fireplace wall? I can help you with the track lighting. The first question I have is, is it on a dimmer? The second question is have you ever changed any of the light bulbs? Those look to be either MR16 or GU10 base, Im guessing GU base because I dont see a transformer on the fixture, (they have knoby prongs). The first thing you could do is install a dimmer, second lower the wattage, 3rd adjust the beam spread. Pendant lights would only look well if they actually could drop over something, like an end table, otherwise they will float around. As a side not almost any pendant can be converted to hang off track, as long as its not heavy. Another thing you could do is change the track to stainless steel, or to even a modern rail light system, or something else with adjustable heads. You could also install shallow housing recessed cans if room in the ceiling permits. The art wall is coming along but you need to either move or add a larger frame to the outside edge, and possible add a bit more to it. as it stands its not centered to the sofa. So it needs to be centered to the wall. Replace that tiny table thing, with a sofa table behind the couch and put the computer on that with a chair, or put an actual desk behind the sofa. with lamp to make it well, make sense or get an actual little desk back there. Add a floor reading lamp and a table lamp to sofa table. this gives you layers of light so you dont have to turn the track on all the time.

We say the same thing here in Massachusetts. We've had snow in May, 90 degrees in April, no spring, mud season and so forth. You and I live where we live because it's home.

It's 41 and sunny here in Larimore, ND, but that's not to say we won't have a blizard the next hour! LOL

I feel your pain!

I still don't have the Purple Martins, my friend in Grand Forks has only six, and they usually arrive at his place in groups of 50 or more, and his friend in Fargo, with a large, established colony, has none yet.

They're running late everywhere on the northern end of their migration.

Yep, seems like everything is a month behind up here this year doesn't it Carol?
There aren't even buds on the trees yet! We always have blooming lilacs for graduation (Memorial Day wkend)....and there sure won't be any blooming in time.
Farmers are really getting crabby and looks like June 1st is the soonest field work will start around my neck of the woods. A short growing season is even shorter.
Hey SOcks, the picture does give me hope! Its beautiful.

Central & East Coast Florida record breaking high temps. all week, humidity 58% and climbing, drought for several years making our rain deficit (even after FAYE last year dropping 26") in the feet not inches, water restrictions, sink holes opening up all over from collapsing aquafirs and crazy dry technicolor lightening storms, water spouts on lakes rivers and ocean, tornadoes, hurricanes, and tropical storms all this for a few weeks of perfect weather every year. Still I'd rather be here than ND.

AARGH--Turned on the heat again this morning here in the Twin Cities! Freezing cold and damp today. I have a heavy sweater on, a lap blanket on my lap, a hot cup of coffee in hand, and am sitting as close as possible to the radiator for warmth.

Had city-wide garage sales today....they always are the same day as the fishing opener. It was COLD and cloudy. Every time the sun would peak out for a moment, people cheered! But do keep the snow, Connie....we don't really want that!

No traffic, not much crime, when tragedy does occur neighbors and friends are here to help
Lots of wildlife--well until deer season opens/or pheasants
Lots of ducks and geese--until the water drys up
Good medical--for me anyway
If I need something on a high shelf in a store, there is usually a tall guy around that does not work there
Yep, we had snow flurries this morning, but I hear Minot had more
Wind blew our east
And thank you for the beautiful spring picture Our are coming--really!!!

I think, it is easy, you live in ND cause you can! :)

At least, that is what I tell peeps when they ask me, why I live in Oklahoma, with the threat of tornadoes.
