I think if the closets were painted white, I wouldn't notice.

If they were painted a COLOR, I would. I sort of expect closets to be white. So the light can reflect off the walls, and because people paint their rooms during their tenure, and they can't be bothered emptying out the closet.

I like white closets too. It looks cleaner.

Myself, I've never been one for painting the inside of a closet anything but white. I like the brightness of white.

But if I were house-hunting, as long as the closet was "clean" (no holes in the drywall, no black scuff marks), I don't think I'd care all that much what color they were inside.

We just repainted the Master and two secondary bedrooms in preparation for (re) listing our house to sell. We did all the bedrooms in Duron "Sandy Lane" but repainted the Master closet (and entry closet) in basic "builder's white". They look really good (closets take a lot of abuse) and it was worth the time and $$ to do it, especially since they are empty now (the house is vacant) and any scuff marks etc., would really show. We did the kitchen too (Duron "Tobacco Road") and my Realtor told the painters to paint the inside of the pantry that color as well. Whatever!

We painted the inside of the children's closets and then put in a nice closet system but they had tiny rooms. We also took the doors off the closets in these rooms so it made sense to paint. Otherwise, closets were painted white.

Our butler's pantry (pass-through from the kitchen to dining room) was painted red. The kitchen was more a buttery yellow while the dining rooms was a taupe. The red just added a bit of oomph but it didn't overwhelm the living space.

I have a shallow-ish hall closet that I'm going to repaint a COLOR! Mostly because it will make me happy when I open it. It needs repainting badly in general, and I figure, I might as well make it pretty. But all the other, deeper closets, I would leave white, even if I did repaint them. (actually, they all sort of need it; I bet they haven't been painted in 20 years; we've lived there 16, and I'm certain they hadn't been repainted in the 5 years the previous owners lived there)

I think the white is fine. If there are spots that need touch up, I'd do it.

We did paint our walk in master closet a lighter shade of gold then what is in our master bedroom. There's lots of light in the closet and the closet is large enough that it doesn't look small, just looks bright and clean. We weren't planning on moving when we painted it, and it will probably stay the same color when we list. We haven't painted the other closets, they're all builders white. I think when we go to sell the house this spring, we'll paint all the empty closets a fresh white just because with nothing in them you can see any and all scuff marks etc.

We always match our closets to the room decor. Saying that, a white closet would not prevent me from buying a home.

My builder always paints the closets white, regardless of the room color. He says it makes them look bigger and cleaner. I did have him paint our master bedroom walk-in closet the same color as the bedroom because of its size. It is about 10' x 10' and as large as a small bedroom, so I think it looks better painted the room color. All the other closets are the same white as our trim color, so the color extends from the closet door trim into the closet.

Good grief, lol. I've been living in this house for 2 months and I couldn't tell you what color the interior of the closets are, white I suppose, but now I'll have to check because it sure didn't register on me when I looked at the place. Oh actually that's a lie.. I remember now that the large doublewide coat closet on the upstairs landing is lined in cedar, but that's the only one I know of.

I would probably be repainting all the rooms anyways... so I would be repainting the closet at the same time (with the room color).
Type of door would not matter to me.

Walk-ins should be something that matches the room (and doorless!) but I think white is an excellent choice for a closet. Of course, closet color wouldn't affect my decision to buy or not buy, but I suspect most closets would look better with fresh paint. They really do get dinged up!
