Pantry cab or pantry closet?
Comments (8)We have a 36"w x 24" d ceiling height cabinet with doors (3 pull-out shelves and 2 non pull-out shelves) on top and 3 drawers (2 deep, 1 shallow) below. It sits in between the kitchen and eating area. The shallow drawer is perfect for cutlery. The bottom drawer is used to store all our pastas--bags, boxes. The middle drawer is used for snack foods (bulky bags, bags of trail mix, etc.) The bottom 2 pull outs store canned/jarred goods(with enough space so that most cans can be stacked 2 high,) the top pull out stores boxed goods and lesser used goods (backup mayo, salad dressings, etc.) The bottom shelf is just low enough that I can reach light-weight items without a stool--a great place for cereal boxes (the shelf is deep enough that unopened backup boxes can be stored behind the ones in current use.) I need to use a stool for the top shelf and we store paper goods there (paper towels, tissues, napkins.) This set up has worked very well for us for the past 2 1/2 years. I like having drawers for containing stacks of pasta boxes and bulky snack foods. It's much better, for me, than having these items on shelves. I feel as though the space is put to optimal use....See MoreHow would we remove paint from cedar garage doors ?
Comments (2)Welllll... Think "stripping" here! Either the harsh MC-class stuff; OR the newer class of Safer-strippers like the Peel-away system, or Smart-Strip by Dumond chemicals. The safer stuff is twice+ the price, BUT some are NO/Low VOC'S. They're also slower, but you can still spell your name after a few minutes!!! I ordered some of this into our store this summer. Comments (2)My understanding, and I could be totally mistaken, is that the moths are attracted to the smell of wool. The moths lay the eggs, and as inox wrote, it's the larvae that do the damage by eating the wool fibers. I've been under the impression that the aroma of cedar masks the odor of the wool. To renew the cedar, sanding will help get down to "new wood" and might release a bit more of the cedar aroma. It does depend on the age of the wood though. There might not be much aromatics left in an old board. Sanding should lighten the surface color of the wood. So you could sand the walls to release some of the cedar aroma. If they are not bright enough, you could staple a non-wool fabric high on the walls and let it drape down. Just my thoughts. I'm by no means an expert or even mildly educated on this....See MoreShelving in pantry closet? Closet organization systems?
Comments (16)I have Elfa ventilated shelves (and some drawers) in my pantry and laundry room both. I love them BUT I use liners so I don't have the wobbly issue going on. That would drive me crazy. Elfa's ventilated shelves, unlike what you can find at Lowe's, HD or Ikea, have the wires a lot closer together. They also "lock" into place so the wire part is sitting really firmly in the bracket - not just a piece of wood sitting on top of the shelf bracket. As far as organizing little things, Elfa has "shelf baskets" that you can put dividers in and stack stuff in if need be. In the pic below, I have one of those on the immediate left (3 shelves up) and above the counter top oven in the back. I use it for bags of baking stuff like chocolate chips, coconut, etc on the left and treats in the back. And I absolutely love their big drawers. Container Store's return policy is great too - anytime with a receipt and the best Elfa sales is 30% off all Elfa products. It starts Dec. 24th and goes through the end of January typically. There is one in the fall that isn't as good - 25% of Elfa Shelving. (No, I don't work for Container Store, I am just a big fan and will be buying some more Elfa stuff during their Dec. sale.) Here's a picture of our new pantry....See Moremclarke
