Thanks EngineerChic... I am happy to say that we will not be renting it and hope to spend several weeks throughout the year there until my husband retires and then perhaps a few months each year. Not sure how I feel about jute but I did order a small 2x3 sample to my permanent home so I can see how it feels before I order the larger size. I did neglect to say that there will also be a loveseat in the same color (creamy white) as the sofa. And the entertainment center is just under 10' long and 22" deep.

I was watching a decorating show the other day and they said a rug should always be touched by several pieces of furniture and never be just "floating"... so I'd buy the size rug that would go under more furniture pieces. Are you still thinking of buying from Decorator's Outlet? Check the 80% off rug section.. you might find something you like there and you can save all kinds of $$$. Your office is looking great BTW.

Oly, I love the rug. It's nice to walk and stand on, and the color is perfect. It's 100% wool, which I love. The couch will be the same navy leather as the chairs in a few weeks. It is on order. So the pattern in the rug won't compete with the floral in the couch. Ingrid, thanks for your suggestions. Everything faces the tv in this room (over the fireplace). I'd i loves the right hand chair to be directly across from the window chair, it would sit in the middle of an open wall to the dining room. Yes, the couch is at an angle. About 45 degrees. It brings it into the room instead of so far back u see the stairs. There is a sofa table behind it, also at an angle. There is enough room behind that for me to walk back there. Here is another view from the dining room. I have always found this living room layout difficult to arrange.

The chosen rug doesn't play well with the furniture IMO. It's very stark against the brown sofa. It has a look more suited to a glamorous bathroom to my eyes. I understand not wanting to compete with the counter, but I think if you can return or use the white rug elsewhere, there are much better options for your pretty family room. It's a bit too small as well.
