Are those the exact positions you normally have your furniture in or did they get shifted when you placed the area rug?

Pretty much that's how the furniture goes. I do rearrange about twice a year but this is my favorite position. Oh, another table sits at the end of the couch. I just didn't put it back.

I think you need to move the furniture more to wards the center of the rug. There is so much open space. I think the rug size is fine.

I was going to suggest turning it also because that is the best way and how it's most often seen. Now you can see much more of the border and it just looks "right". Now the size is also perfect.

I like the rug turned like you have it now....looks the right size. Maybe put the chairs more directly across from each other. Also how about the square table at the end of your sofa exchanged for the round one next to chair near the fireplace........round table on each end of the sofa and square table by each chair.

With the rug turned the new way, I totally think you could get by with the 12 x 15 rug you already own.

Erin, I hadn't really noticed the tables being 2 rounds and 2 squares. Strange since I'm usually pretty OCD!! I can't move the one by the fireplace as it holds the video components underneath and that's the only one that works that way. Thanks for the suggestions. I thought about trying the rug the opposite direction than I first had it, but didn't think it would work well. Glad for the suggestions; I like it that way. Thank you!

Once I magnified the size and could see the pattern I really liked the rug. Is it just the orientation or is the couch in a slightly crooked position? The square table by the window got turned a bit when you changed the rug I imagine. The chairs would look nice if they could be pulled closer to the couch to make that a conversation area and arranged directly across from each other.

Oly, I love the rug. It's nice to walk and stand on, and the color is perfect. It's 100% wool, which I love. The couch will be the same navy leather as the chairs in a few weeks. It is on order. So the pattern in the rug won't compete with the floral in the couch.

Ingrid, thanks for your suggestions. Everything faces the tv in this room (over the fireplace). I'd i loves the right hand chair to be directly across from the window chair, it would sit in the middle of an open wall to the dining room.

Yes, the couch is at an angle. About 45 degrees. It brings it into the room instead of so far back u see the stairs.

There is a sofa table behind it, also at an angle. There is enough room behind that for me to walk back there.
