Delayed Delivery

Has anyone had any issues lately with furniture delivery being severely delayed? I ordered $5800 worth of furniture back on November 11 - bed, night stands, side table, sofa table from Stanley, an ottoman from Bernhardt, and two custom ordered chairs. The chairs have come in and they had to be specially made, but I am still waiting on delivery of the Stanley and Bernhardt furniture.

I was originally told 10-12 weeks, and it has now been 24. My sales person no longer works at my retailer, so now no one wants to help me because their is no commission in it for them.

I have been having to chase down answers from my retailer, and am not getting very far. I am thinking of telling the manager to knock off the commission from my final price because of hassle, or I will cancel my order. Do you think that is reasonable?

It sounds like something is very wrong. Either the furniture was never ordered, or it came in and was sold to someone else.

I would be sitting in the showroom waiting for the Manager to show me all coorespondence with the factories.

Waiting 6 months for furniture is crazy. I would definitely start complaining and skip the salesperson. You need to start talking to managers. Also, check other stores in your area that carry the same brand name. Maybe they have it or at least have a better delivery. Tell them that so and so has it in stock or whatever they tell you.
Then either get a discount for your troubles or cancel and buy somewhere else. Many years ago I bought a bedroom set from Sears and they told me 6-8 weeks. Then that passed by and nothing, they said no stock. I started calling other sears in town and can you believe one of the stores actually had stock. I had to cancel it from the first store and rebuy it at the other.
Too bad you're not in Houston, we have a furniture store that guarantees same day delivery on everything!
I think it's crazy how some of these places expect us to wait forever while they keep our money. Get mad and fight.

Great pictures and great maps! Heidi, don't worry - unlike algebra - there won't be a test on the maps. We appreciate you doing them. It's making the month a lot more fun and you have a new addition to the maps with the GardenWeb names included on them. Love it! It seems I have lots of appointments scheduled this week so sorry if I don't drop in soon after you post. Today one of the garden groups that I belong to had a meeting and luncheon out of town so between the meeting, lunch, and travel - lots of my day was gone... not to mention I did a bit of snoozing in front of the TV when I got home! Lunch was so delicious though - it was worth the drive. Our speaker talked about roses and when I got home I walked around to check on my plants ... and yes, I had my first rose blossom of the year! I do not think there is a way to tell in advance if you are going to experience problems with the door hinges, other than any obvious balkiness with the door of the floor model. If you notice anything but flawless operation of the door hinges on the showroom model then I would forego getting it. Still, I do not think there is any way to know for sure whether you will encounter problems down the road. Some new Bluestar owners on here have been very vociferously defending Bluestar's new V1 saying the oven door problems have been licked. To be honest I haven't been keeping track to know whether any of the new "V1" models have exhibited the problem. But if I were you, before buying the showroom model I would confirm that the bottom panel below the oven door is plain flat stainless without the vent louvers of the older models. This will indicate that the range is one of the newer releases. If the bottom panel has the louvers, then it is the older design which *might* be more problematic doorwise. But here's the thing: if you are paying the exact same price, why buy the floor model? Get a new one that hasn't been monkeyed with. You only buy floor models when they are knocking money off the price, otherwise, insist on a pristine machine straight from the warehouse or factory.

The good news, well more like 'Damage Control' is we signed up for PSE&G appliance repair coverage and in 13 more days I can call and make a repair claim. They've done well for me in the past so hopefully this time will go as well. FOAS, we've been down the reasonable path with both BB and WP to no avail regardless of the horrendous history of this unit. OK so Linda's Carnation Ad reminded me of a fav cominc relief - gotta bleep out a few vowels but you'll get the jist: Subject: Rhyming contest When opening a can of Carnation evaporated milk for your recipes just smile and think of this. A little old lady from North Carolina had worked in and around her family dairy farms since she was old enough to walk, with hours of hard work and little compensation... and when canned Carnation Milk became available in grocery stores, she read an advertisement offering $5,000 for the best slogan/rhyme beginning with "Carnation Milk is best of all...." and she said, I know all about milk and dairy farms... I can do this! She sent in her entry, and about a week later, a black limo drove up in front of her house... a man got out and said, "Carnation LOVED your entry so much, we are here to award you $1000, even though we will not be able to use it..." I had a very similar problem with Ethan Allen. It took nearly a full year to finally get everything straightened out, and I kept getting handed off to different assistant managers. Very frustrating. The big problem was always with the upholstered pieces. I had no problem with delivery of the wood pieces. It seems that a lot of these national furniture chains are having the upholstery work done in India and other Asian countries; so fabrics get backordered or there is a problem with the upholstery, but the store where you ordered it has no idea what is going on and doesn't keep tabs on the status of their orders.
