Toss up. They are both nice. Side by side though, the black looks more elegant and the other looks a bit more casual.

I like both but I see the 2nd one more in a bedroom than LR.

not sure where the frame's going to go yet. Possibly on one of the end tables or in the side of the e.stand. (the ends light up) i currently don't have anything in the sides yet. Still waiting on the cable company to come for the hookup then we'll have to screw the whole thing together.
Anyhow, i would like to pick at least one pic frame that i really like for each room of the house.
Have a really awesome one for the foyer... now i just need a table. :)

Black!

According to my monitor, black... but both are lovely. Is that a tag still on your furniture? It's beautiful fabric.

My immediate choice was the black but then I noticed that your sofa has a gold pattern over a red background. Where are you planning on placing the frame? If it's on a table next to the sofa and the yellow/gold frame picks up on the gold color in the sofa then maybe that's the one you should go with. I can't really tell because I have no idea if these two things have the same color in common, it just looks that way to me on my screen. The frame comes across too light of a yellow/gold though so I'm not sure. I don't actually see where the gold is on the frame, it looks like pewter on my monitor...while the black frame has has what appears to be a copper color and yet you refer to it as gold. The gold on one frame doesn't look like the same gold on the other frame so I'm confused why you say they're both gold.

You say the curtains are sage green and they look metallic on mine. Good grief I must have a lousy monitor!

oceanna - yes the tag is still on in that pic! haha I don't have any recent ones on my computer.

flying flower - the 'black and gold' outside is of course the black the inside is gold. the detail on the black is gold. the 'yellow and gold' frame is like a buttery yellow and gold. they fade into one another. the detailing isn't really pewter but it's not gold either. and my curtains are a silky polyester, crinkle type. could be why they look metallic on your monitor. they don't look like that in person.

Honestly, the picture frames are so small in relation to the furniture and window treatment and so similar to each other that the choice would be insignificant to me.

I like the second one (yellow w/ gold) better now that I see a close-up of it. The black w/ gold is a little too strong for my taste, bordering on gawdy.

*GASP* gawdy :( if i could see these in person i would be able to pick easier. hmm why is that?

Instead of saying the frame is gaudy, that's too strong of a word, I'm going to call it overly ornamental. The black frame reminds me of Victorian. Are you going for a Victorian theme in this room?

I think it is hard to make a judgement based on a single picture. If the frame were large, I could see it being quite overpowering in a room where the rest of the furnishings are more transitional; however, it looks like a table top picture frame so I think you will be fine. I also prefer the black as I don't much care for the faux grains running through the yellow.

I've been also working on my decor and pictures and one of the things that I am doing is to make all frames in the same room similar color/style. For the formal rooms, this is gold and the hallway/bedrooms/family the plan is for black. Having a black/gold frame is perfect as you can then you can add either black or gold frames with other artwork.

Do you have a particular picture that you want to put in the frame? The frame is more dressy/formal and would look nice with a more formal picture inside.

val - i was going to put one of our wedding pics in the frame. i think i am going to go with the black. i'm with you on the lines running through the gold one. i shouldn't second guess myself.

i want to live in the house awhile before i start putting any artwork up. trying to live 'clutter free' so I want to buy stuff i really like. (of course that i can afford) plus i want to get the walls painted first and that will be awhile. another thread. :)
