Which sink, wainscot, vanity, or other combo option do you like?
Comments (16)Thanks: Michoumonster, I'm with you on the usefulness of the side counter, thats why I am liking the side sink. Mydreamhome, I like symmetry too, but I sort of like the intersection of the listello into the side of the soapstone backsplash. I want this to look like a console instead of a cabinet installed. Andreadeg, thanks for your vote, I bet you like symmetry too :) Treasuretheday, yes, I have 2 single scones in chrome and bathroom quality on order: Sweeby, the drawers will be very small on the center vanity. I'm guessing 4" wide. They might work if they were the box type without the drawer glides, but I really don't know how cabinets are made. So, since I am not a fan of "useless" I am steering away from the centered design. Inmc, just for you I have updated the centered cabinet without the backsplash. But for our house it won't work. Also as I mention above, I want this to look like a console instead of a base cabinet installed. I am trying to make this a beautiful spa like farm bath - heard of those? ;) What this means is that I can take a lovely soaking bath from time to time AND my family can still wash their tractor greasy, livestocky hands in the sink AND guest can use it. I don't think the marble listello will hold up to all those uses, while the soapstone should be prefect for this use. For Inmc (and I put a human in there for scale):...See MoreWhich main level do you like best?
Comments (16)Robo- I like several things that you did! Biggest issues I see that I have been trying to avoid are: -Master bedroom door faces main areas. I *do* like that I can get from the bathroom to the closet without crossing in front of the door though. -Where to put a back door? I'd like a spot I could get to easily holding food for the grill and also a place for kids to come in with muddy feet. I guess it could go in the laundry. -closets - Like you said, there aren't many. I really would like plenty of closets. I want to look over your ideas some more though. I really do like some things you did. Thank you. :) Last night I worked on some things too. I'll post a pic here....See MoreKitchen hutch designs - which do you like best?
Comments (25)Thanks everybody. There are so many talented people out there. Bmore, that's a very good point about the center doors not opening as far in option 1. We had not considered that. Originally, we did have something akin to a corbel. I worried about it getting too cute. DH will post that later. Country smile, my main reasons for this "hutch" are for a large expanse of counter space plus additional storage. The need for counter space is one reason I do not want to bring any part of it to the lower cabinetry, as several people have suggested, though I agree it would look attractive. DH and I refer to this section of the kitchen as a hutch, as a way to differentiate it from the other sections. But it does not have to be furniture like, just attractive, proportional, and functional. I agree with others here that the all glass option opens up the space, and is a good contrast to the large floor to ceiling wall pantry, which will hold a small microwave, food, etc. Though this kitchen will have far more storage than my current kitchen, it is not huge. I am just not certain if I can afford to give up this space that I might need for practical items and don't want to end up adding fabric down the road. I too am a dish freak, though they don't all go together. So, I want practical and at the same time pretty, hence, trying to combine the glass and closed doors. LWO, a good point about not making the whole thing so wide. The architect suggested we could do that and I also felt it was crowded. DH is working on getting the final plans drawn up for the cabinet maker, but will play will all of your ideas later. Many many thanks to all of you. Comments (139)Sheeisback, I like the Fallen Leaf as well, but it's a pain because it's a CSP color, which means it's patented and protected by BM, so you can't buy samples in the stores, and you have to buy it in Aura paint. You can get a sample directly from BM, for $10 plus shipping, then the $60 for the gallon of Aura...not worth it to me. Emmarene, the kitchen also has the hand hewn pine beams on the ceiling and the shiplap chalet ceiling, painting in BM White Dove. Have to go back and really go over cabinet options and colors. Thinking about a green or an ivory now since I'm concerned the plain maple will clash with the pine beams. I don't want any cabs with orange in them, and I don't want dark cabs....See Morewsea
