I would throw it all away.

If the Bibles are family Bibles then I would keep them for the genealogical info they may contain. If not, I'd chuck the whole works of it.

I don't see how anyone could throw away bibles.

As a matter of fact, I just had to clear out my mom's apt. about a year ago, after she died. There was a whole grocery bag full of Bibles. What to do with them? My siblings and I aren't really church goers (and I have at least a half dozen Bibles of my own, anyway).

I checked around, and couldn't find anyplace that wanted them donated. Finally, we had a yard sale last week, and I put them in the free stack (I always put out a few free items). Sure enough, very early on, a gentleman came along who wanted them, who said he'd have no trouble finding homes for them. He took the whole bag of them.

I would do everything possible to find someplace that might have a use for them.

As to the clippings... Could you maybe save of a few of the more interesting ones, and pitch the rest? Or maybe scan them onto a disk, just in case anyone was interested in the info in the future? But I wouldn't keep all that sort of thing, you just cannot keep storing piles of paper for generation upon generation. Having cleared out my mom's apt. after she died, and my aunt's this year when she moved to assisted living, I've become pretty ruthless with the stuff I keep in my own house--I don't want someone else to have to go through the piles of useless clutter I've spent the last year sifting through.

If none of the Bibles is a Family Bible (register of births, deaths, marriages going 'way back) I'd put them and the booklets and pamphlets in the paper recycling bin.

I agree with Barabra3...and nothing wrong with tossing bibles.

One of the ideas I use from the FLYLady system is "Keep the love; keep the memories, but it's okay get rid of the stuff."

It's hard; I know! But the little slips of paper are just paper. If you don't want to keep them for yourself; if you don't want to organize or display them, or keep them in a book of some sort, it's okay to get rid of them.

You will never forget your Mother and her love of her clubs and organizations. If you don't need the paper, it's not important. Just because you get rid of "things," you're not getting rid of your Mother's love.

If I were having to dispose of old, no longer useable Bibles I would treat them like a retired flag. Burn them in a container with dignity and thanksgiving for the joy and peace they brought your Mother.

If you'd feel better about it, I'm sure you could call a local Church and ask them to dispose of the Bibles for you.

Personally,I couldn't/wouldn't throw away a Bible. You might could run them on FreeCycle or Craig's List. Donate to a Thrift Store or maybe even a Church.

Several sales I have been too have Bibles for free, so you might try that.

I would never throw out a Bible either...I would be more inclined to call the local church organiztions or Sally Anns.

I never thought of checking with a church about the Bibles. That's a good idea. I' will keep Mother's large print one- I can use it now. I also found one that was given to me by my Sunday School when I was eight years old. So that will have to be kept. I will keep a couple of the club booklets- one has her picture in it, and one more from another club to show my kids what she enjoyed doing. Some of the clippings are interesting now in the context of today's world problems so those I keep. Thanks for the input.

Seems like throwing away a Bible would be kinda like burning the flag. I couldn't do that. Stash it, store it and let your kids worry about it when you're gone.

I'd agree with putting the bibles on Craigslist or Freecycle, - I couldn't throw a bible away either.

If anyone in your family scrapbooks, they may want a few pieces of the paper items. They might make an interesting memorial page.

I would never throw away a Bible. I suggest you give it to Goodwill or a church.

or if you're into crafting, use certain verses (carefully cut out) tossing the rest...i've had to toss a couple. the pages were falling out and some missing...

I read to patients at a nursing/rehabilitation facility and am often asked to read Bible passages. I frequently hear from the residents that they wish they had a Bible of their own. I have often bought a Bible for a patient who wanted one but didn't have anyone to get one for them. People in facilies like that are often forgotten about by family and friends. I would donate them to a similar type of facility. I know the place I volunteer at would love to receive a stack of Bibles.

Some good ideas have been offered about possible uses for the Bibles but sometimes it's a bit difficult to find an appropriate home for one that's been rather heavily worn.

I like the ones with more modern translations.

I worship God and revere Christ, and look upon a Bible as being important, so would dispose of it/them with some respect, but have no compunction about burning a Bible or disposing of it in another dignified way.

To my mind, a Bible is a carrier telling me of the works of the spirits whom I worship and revere, and whose example I feel called upon to emulate ... something like a cradle carrying a child. I do not worship a Bible ... that would be bibliolatry, wouldn't it?

I understand wanting to hold onto the memories, but as the years go by, I'm finding it easier to toss just about everything. My goal is to declutter whenever I can..pictures, old costume jewelry, papers, and yes, even a bible or two.

Some clubs would love to have the booklets, if they are old. I know, my former extension club had a small stack of OLD booklets, that were out at the anniversaries. There were family members that looked for their loved ones names in them.

The club booklets might be of interest to a local Genealogy society. As for the Bibles I did a Google search and most of recommendations have already been posted here. I have burned a worn out Bible before. Our Pastor once told us if you can't bring yourself to do it bring it to him and he would dispose of it for you.

actually, the flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning

As for the Bibles, if they are usuable, please pass them on to others
If they are in bad shape, get rid of them in whatever manner suits you. I have heard of some religons that bury Bibles that are no longer usable.

Sorry. but I could never throw a Bible away. I just think the words and the lessons in the Bible are valuable enough that someone might want them. If your mother was a religious person, just think of all the times she may have read passages from those Bibles and prayed. That's the way I feel about my mom's Bible. Sometimes, when I'm having a problem, I just think of her and flip open the Bible and I seem to find an answer to my problem. As for the other papers and momentos, have you thought of scanning them and saving them on a CD, in case you should ever want them?
