What color would you paint this front door?
Comments (31)Interesting question about the windowboxes. I have windowboxes on the first and second floor of the roadside facade of our home, also under a bay window in our bedroom (north side). Those on the front are the same width as the windows, we used 2 boxes when there was a mullion to be considered. The front boxes are painted white to match the vinyl portion of the windows (Andersen "narrowline"), we don't have mouldings around the windows or shutters, those under the bay window are stained to match the body of the house and pergola. We opted for window width and white to give the front of an architecturally dull home a little zip. You might try mocking up the wider width on your home using a piece of cardboard that is the dept of the planned boxes. See what pleases you most. In your case I would probably make sure the window boxes were in keeping with the color of the body of the house. As for watering; I water the second floor boxes from the inside. I simply pop out the screens, perform the routine deadheading/"fussing", and water. I do this on average every 4-5 days in the warmest months, less frequently in the cooler ones. I feed the plants with every watering to keep them looking full and lush. It's about time for me to bring in enough geraniums to "keep us in flowers" throughout the winter months, and begin thinking about evergreens and Christmas lights... sigh....See MoreYet another CL possibility: What do you think?
Comments (17)Prices really vary - I live near one of the poorest counties in PA, and have paid about $100 for good solid wood dressers at "goodwill" type places. Both I had to have stripped, but one was a mission-style solid oak, the other solid maple with a pretty, curvy front. If you are near enough a big city where you get "dealers" stopping by, that keeps prices on good stuff from going rock-bottom. You'd have to check out that piece well in person because its painted - and I agree with others to start around $50. But I do think its cute - you'd have to have a place for it though. I don't even think you can get a new dresser at Target for even close to $100....See Morefront door to keep color, what do you think
Comments (38)Hey there June! We love that color! Tying in bright colors is all about adding little nods to your theme throughout your exterior design. Most likely, the biggest pain point here is the style of door and the gold weatherstripping & detailing. When you get your new door we recommend white or black weatherstripping for a cleaner, seamless look. As for the wind whistles - beyond aesthetic purposes your front door should be airtight and watertight. Because it is the original door, the weatherstripping most likely needs to be replaced. If you are planning on replacing the entire door structure this should be a part of your bid, however keep this in mind and make sure! IN THE MEANTIME, try to add some golden and light blue accents around your exterior and interior to tie in the golden detailing. Your current blue, grey, white and brown design will work great with golden accents. However you don't have to go crazy on the gold, a new door, better stripping, and more blue accents outside will solve all of these issues! Comments (8)Good point about the garage doors fading away. When I bought my house they were a contrasting color. Once I painted them the same color as the body of the house, the house seemed much larger. Also, the front porch was more prominent. I think if you do this for your house, then your very lovely front porch will become the focal point. Right now, it competes with the garage doors. So i recommend painting the garage doors a color that is very much like your brick and selecting a color for the front door to make it pop....See Moredeclansmom
