Candace Olson has used this very style of fixture - is it Eurofase? They have pendants also which is what Candace used over a basement bar. Sputnik look - I love that fixture style. If I had my own house I would use these somewhere!! And the way the light comes out of the fixture is fabulous!!

I like both light fixtures, but honestly, to me they don't look good together. I love the entry way fixture...could you change out the chandelier to something with a little more sparkle..I think it's the shades that aren't going with the entry way light

If something is very cutting edge and different there is the danger of not only getting tired of it but also of it looking oddly outdated after a while. And I have to agree, the two light fixtures don't really look comfortable together.

Thanks for the replies. For more info, I'm keeping the chandelier - I just bought it recently and it also was pricey. (Hmm, I see a trend, haha.)

They don't speak to me as going together either. The DR has a "silver" look to it while the foyer looks like chrome. However -- can you bring it home for an audition? Have someone hold it up in the foyer and look at it from different views?

Love the first but not the second. I guess I always think of one for a foyer as hanging to some degree and not just way up on the ceiling. My 2 cents.

Wow! I am really surprised at all the no votes! I think they work together perfectly. If you like them - I say go for it!

I don't think they go together. The first one is very horizontal, zen, restful. I imagine it produces a soft, unfocused light. If it made a noise, it would sound like this: Mmmmmmmmm.....

The second one is MUCH more dynamic, futuristic, sharp-edged, and I imagine it produces a harsh, edgy light. It it made a noise, it would be this: ZZZZzzzzappp!

Also, I'm not sure I would want it hanging from the ceiling -- it looks like it would kill you if it ever fell. Not that it would fall -- but I wouldn't find it welcoming. And I think you want a welcoming fixture for your foyer.

I think they work fine together, provided your color schemes are compatible, and your overall style is eclectic/modern. I'd say, use the style of the trim in your foyer as the decision point...if you have a staircase and moldings with a more traditional style, you might be happier with something simpler. But if your foyer has a more modern architecture, and if your color there is bold, go ahead! I'd also recommend that you keep the foyer very uncluttered, and have one other source of sparkle there, which I think should be a good big mirror over a simple piece of furniture. Otherwise you run the risk of big diamond earrings with a tweed suit...

I love the chandy. I think the foyer piece is very cool, and certainly the two could work together in adjacent spaces.

However, I am wondering what your entryway is like - if the ceiling is high, or the area is fairly large, I don't see it. Not sure of the proportion, of course, but it seems like it would work best in a relatively smaller space, and in an area with lower ceilings and fairly simple furnishings.

I really like the two together. They have a certain sameness to them...monochromatic, shiny, clean lines, etc. But they are oh so different. I am curious about the scale. How big is the foyer fixture? And, as Les says, how big is the foyer? Figuuring out the scale is probably they key to your yes-or-no answer.

I think foyers and powder rooms and guest rooms are good places to have some fun. That thing is great fun and, if you have some edgy contemporary stuff elsewhere, gives a little preview of what's to come.

I can see them working in adjacent rooms, but only if the chandalier is more traditional than the rest of your house, and you need something much more modern to adjust the balance back.

I love the first one, together they would compete for attention if they can both be seen at the same time.

Our entryway is almost a joke - see what I mean? (the picture is taken from the living room, looking at th front door).

I don't have a picture of the dining room, but here's the layout of that part of the house, so you can kind've get the idea of the relation between the entry and the dining room. (Ignore the kitchen/ breakfast area - this isn't a good drawing. The big red rectangle is a see-through fireplace between the living room and office.)

I decided to go ahead and order the foyer fixture. As Amy said, I think they both have the shiny/silver+lucite look to them. In case you can't tell, the chandelier has lucite (or some sort of clear material) in the center and under each of the shades. The lucite makes the chandelier a little less traditional, in my opinion.

Don't do it--with those traditional wood doors? I'd put up something that's nearly flush with the ceiling and unobtrusive. It's not an important enough space for such a statement fixture. Save your money and put it towards something that you'd enjoy every time you saw it or used it, rather than a light over the door.

I say try it and see! Why not. I gotta say though that your wood doors take you out of divine design and into a country look and don't go with that fixture at all...I think they really need to be painted white to comlete your look...

Yes, I know the doors don't really go. They are ANOTHER item on the long list to replace. But I HAD to replace that hideous light fixture first!

(You should have seen the ugly grey carpet, the broken ceiling fans, etc. that we've already replaced. Before I bought that chandelier, the dining room had this horrible green/black monstrosity. We painted the oak paneling and the built-ins you can see the edge of. Our house is in a great, well-established neighborhood on a beautiful private treed lot, but the inside needed a big facelift.)
