You have a lovely home. Love windowseats!!! I personally like the current fixture the best. It blends with the lights over the island too. The large shades on the other two fixtures are very dominating and create a visual 'roadblock'. If you like the look of shades, have you considered buying chandelier shades and using them on the current fixture? Ballard, Pottery Barn, Tuesday Morning....lots of places to buy them. If you prefer a more contemporary feel, perhaps you could do a printed/striped/textured shade. If it were up to me, I would consider an icy blue dupioni or linen shade to tie in the lovely blue accent color that is on your sofa. Just a thought:)

I love your space! It's so bright and open and I'm glad you went with your initial instinct and didn't put in a dividing wall. Both of the fixtures you have/had looked great in the space because you have such good bones to work with.

However.... I think the round one you posted last would be gorgeous. It's more substantial than the Ikea one but not as "heavy" as the first one.

Maybe someone will come along and photoshop it is for you so that you can see before you buy!

I'm not a fan of drum shades. Agree with Tinycastles that the first one you had was a visual block. Would imagine the same of the one you're now considering. Any other choices?

OK, I am no expert, but I was thinking that the low hanging fixture is distracting from the view into your FR, the eye doesn't know where to settle. Perhaps something hung higher and not a focal point?

How about a pull-down light, like in the link below? They come in all price points.

When I was growing up, we had one over the kitchen table (no formal dining), and it was great to pull down during meals and especially when we were doing homework at the table. I see you have little ones so it would also be handy for when they're coloring, doing crafts, or homework.

I like this new fixture A LOT. I like the juxtaposition of soft roundness & strong linear. I think it allows the eye to travel around the space in a pleasing way & keeps the focus on the FP. I don't think the current one is "meaty" enough for the open space & just has no interest, even if it had shades. Though I LOVE the original one, you are correct that it was just too much for the space.

I love the round new one best but I also like both light fixtures you now have. I did not like the one you bought but chose not to hang. I LOVE your kitchen so much! I love the color of the cabinets, the way they go up to the ceiling, your appliances, your wood floors, having so much light since you also have recess lighting, your backsplash, how the kitchen is open to the family room and that beautiful granite counter! What granite is it? Thanks for sharing. Hope we all helped.

Thanks for all of your input and lovely comments about my space. I do love it and as I mentioned for the first 6-8 months we lived here (it was a new build) I was really disappointed that i was not vocal enough and did not voice my unhappiness with everything not lining up. We were very naive with this build and just kind of trusted our builder who happens to be a close acquaintance (long story- but he is our accountant as well- don't ask!!!:) ) I have learned to live with it and embrace it now as is. Until we re-do our kitchen in about 25- NEVER years we are not going to change that issues..

MEowzer THANK YOU for photoshopping it into my space. It will most likely be a little higher than the current fixture, although not much!! It certainly helps visualize it in the space. WE have considered just having recessed put in, but we have so many recessesed as it is I wanted to add something extra.

@ msrose & lynn2006, the granite is Typhoon Bordeaux.I LOVE LOVE LOVE it. Sadly it is only on our island as at the time we couldn't fork up another $4000 to do the whole kitchen in it.. Something I regret as well, but live and learn right?
