Cake Balls

I made my first attempt at making cake balls. I chilled the cake balls and used almond bark. It's my first time using it and everything I read said to just melt it in a double boiler and dip the cake balls. If it needed thinning add a tsp of oil. When I melted it, (20 oz) it was soooo thick. I started dipping the cake balls and the almond bark just globbed on it and finally my cake balls started falling apart. I am disgusted. I just did about 1/4 of them and put them in the freezer. What did I do wrong? How do you get the almond bark thin enough to dip in?
