I am not familiar with this strange phrase "leftover chocolate cake." Can you explain the concept, please? ;o)

LOL I was thinking the same thing Maureen..I had to hide the chocolate cake layers in the freezer..just so we'd have dessert for tonight and tomorrow..LOL

Truthfully, little whipped cream or pudding..and a make a triffle..maybe some jam swirled in too...

My mom used to make what she called "cottage pudding". Basically, cut up the cake, smother it in pudding and let it sit to soak in. ta-da!

"terri_pacnw" has the right idea. You can use *any* left over cake or brownies in this manner. The net is full of Trifle Recipes. Just "google"!

I had some left over sponge cake, so I combined it with Bavarian Cream and it made a terrific dessert.

You don't have to DO anything with it. Wrap tightly and stick in the freezer for another day (tomorrow?).

It's not just for breakfast, don'cha know?

If it is dry, sprinkle it with Amaretto or Frangelico and serve it with ice cream. I have chocolate cake with ice cream in the freezer, but it's going to stay there a while, since I have other sweets to eat, and I'm not big on desserts.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions, serious or not. I decided to put it in the freezer yesterday. I will do something with it later. Too much of a good thing around here lately with all the holidays goodies. We even got a giant gift basket filled with more goodies. Oh woe is me, how the heck am I suppose to lose weight with such temptations? LOL

When I was a kid and there was left over cake, Mom would break it up in small chunks and mix it with real whipped cream and place it in ice cube trays. The trays with the removable center. Freeze solid and enjoy. We didn't have plastic wrap in those days and cakes were made from scratch. Without all the preservatives, cake dried out in a hurry.

Clare, no reason why you can't make a chocolate bread pudding out of your leftover Chocolate Cake. Just cut up the cake into cubes and mix in to the egg and cream mixture, sprinkle with sugar and bake. I've used spice cake and gingerbread cake in bread puddings before. With the chocolate bread pudding I'd serve a sauce. The caramel would work, but this vanilla sauce is wonderful with a chocolate bread pudding.

Vanilla Custard for Bread PUdding
================================
2 cups light or coffee cream
3 tablespoons flour
1/2 cup white sugar
1 egg beaten
vanilla extract

Bring milk to a boil.

Mix the flour and sugar and mix into beaten egg.

When milk is hot slowly pour the milk into the egg mixture, stirring constantly. Pour mixture back into the pot and cook over low heat until thickened. Stirring constantly. Remove from heat and add vanilla. Custard should be pouring consistency. Cover the surface with plastic wrap and refrigerate.
