Some of my Christmas Baking

Here are a couple of the gift baskets that I delivered today, along with several other platefuls of goodies. I needed some stress relief this weekend so I baked all weekend.

So far I have made:

Finished decorating! Ok, I'm not the best :-) The moose are a little strange, but they are big and brown so if someone doesn't figure out they are moose, they will think bear.... and either one is appropriate for MN!

Jeanne, you sure had me smiling with all your posts and comments. LOL. I needed that today, mental and physical meltdown. Just didn't feel like doing a single thing, so I didn't. Kind of napped most all day, felt like a Zombie. Marlene, I really did cut back a lot as I just didn't have "what it takes" to do what I usually do. Besides not getting out the three 6 ft trees, I didn't put garland on several of my china cabinet tops. And I STILL haven't finished the family-room mantel or done any swags. Several things still need ornaments added too. I didn't realize what a huge job unpacking and sorting EVERYTHING was going to be....I tend to forget how much I have. LOL. Right now I've got to decide what ornaments to use, without those larger trees I have a lot and I do love them. I had wanted to hang a BIG wreath over family-room mantel (where Jason's portrait is) and load it with ornaments. But I just don't think I can afterall. I usually have a wreath there, or last year put a mirror there and garland around it...this time "Jas may stay thru-out Christmas". LOL. I can always drape garland around his portrait I guess. Maybe I just need a few days break, the past one has been so busy and hard physically. (do those Energy drinks work? LOL. Athletes seem to think so.) thank you all....Kathy...yes I have some Martha Stewert ones...the off white, a plum color, a metalic olive color and a strange goldish color...I wanted something different a couple of years ago..but I always come back to these...I also have but didn't use a garland of the colored glass beads. And I have a big cardboard cover book of the Night Before Christmas from 1941 that I usually set out. That's from the year Denny was born. but it's not his...just one I picked up. I love old things... patti

Colleen, I can only say that you should be sure they are at least written down. My family had/has several "secret" recipes that no one knows how to make because they were family secrets and younger generations just aren't interested enough to ever obtain them before elderly family members died. I was guilty of that myself with some of Grandma's recipes, but fortunately she shared them and so I found other family members that still had them years after Grandma was gone and I finally decided I wanted to make them. I have a cousin who, when her Mother died, just rented a dumpster. When I asked about old family movies, hoping to have them put onto DVDs, she told me that she didn't think anyone was interested in all that "old stuff" and they went into the dumpster with pretty much everything else that wasn't worth money. (sigh) I know we've had this discussion here before, but today's generation just isn't as interested in "family heirlooms", they are more mobile and have less space and different lifestyles. Someone might want those recipes later, though, and hopefully they'll be preserved in some way. Annie

Wow! Good looking baskets. I noticed you made Plantmaven's Amish Sugar cookies. My neighboer and I made cookies today and we made the sugar cookies...made a ton! They are good but so crumbly you can hardly pick one up. I don't suppose you had that problem and I'm wondering what we did wrong. I'm hesitant to give them to anyone although they really do taste good. Any ideas what I did wrong?

Your baskets are so beautifully wrapped, and so plumb fill of goodies! Your friends are very lucky indeed!

I can't rightly say that I have ever baked a list of cookies/treats as long as yours! You rock!
