I think your dining room chair options are a great idea. I am not sure I understand the curtains in the dining room where you can see the stairs going up on the side. Does that separate the LR from the DR? You asked for other suggestions and mine would be to take them down.

As for the LR, I don't think it'd be too much wicker for either of those chairs. I think the first one looks nicer or more contemporary. The 2nd one looks more grandmotherly or porch-y IMHO. Depending upon the proximity of LR to DR you might consider whether this is too much, I couldn't tell but otherwise I think the style and texture would look nice with your sofa, art, colors, etc.

Trim - I think black would be a preference thing. It would look fine, maybe make the rooms look more dark - you seem to have a lot of darker accessories so depending on the look you are after... The white looks fine as-is. You could try the 'cut out black construction paper and tape it on the trim to check it out' before painting technique (or hope for a photoshopper to help).

We did something similar with four wood cross-back chairs with fabric seats for our side chairs and two rattan arm chairs with leather seats for our end chairs. It looks nice. One thing I wasn't anticipating was that the rattan chairs take up a lot more room under the table so they don't tuck under the table quite as well as I would like.

Whenicit, the curtains I have hanging by the stairway divide the foyer and dining room space. I will provide a better picture to give you an idea of what it looks like looking in. I wanted to add drama with a morrocan flair (don't know if it worked). I also am showing another picture to show you how close the rooms are to each other. It is actually one long room (12x24) with room for a small sitting area and dining table. That is why I'm not sure I should get all rattan/wicker chairs. Thanks for you reply. Elena

How durable are your rattan chairs? I have 3 children and I need something that is going to hold up. I don't want to constantly "protect" the chairs from them! I think your chair options are perfect. I would definitely mix and match. You could also use the st.tropez as end chairs but I'm assuming you want those for the living room. No I don't think it would be too much wicker.
Can I ask you the name of your paint color? I love it.

Our rattan chairs are Ethan Allen -- very nice. I'm actually much happier with the rattan chairs than with the cross-back chairs (and the table, too), which seem to chip at the sides when they get pushed. I have two kids, so the chairs do see a a bit of use/abuse. Much happier with the leather seats and rattan for easier cleaning than the fabric seats on the cross-back chairs.

sorry -- the picture isn't great and there's a weird flourescent glare from the safety strips on the backpack that I forgot to move before I took the picture. Hopefully this will give you some idea, though.

Mlraff53, Thanks for your reply. I am trying to convince my husband that mixing different style chairs is OK. He wants everything to be matchy matchy. If it was up to him we would have the matching chairs that go with the sofa. I told him they were too big for such a small room. Anyways, the paint color is Tate Olive by Behr (HD). I really like the color but I got the Interior Flat Enamel (suppose to be washable) finish and it took 3 coats to cover the walls. I can still see some areas that need another coat. So I don't plan on buying Behr paint anymore, at least the flat enamel. It doesn't have very good coverage.

Sarschlos_remodeler, Wow I love your rattan chairs! You really did a great job on mixing 2 different style of chairs. Thanks for posting the photo. Now I can show my husband that other people mix and match too! I like your buffet also, it looks like it has rattan doors or some type of texture. It looks really nice.
