Begging for neutral paint color help!!! Please!
Comments (112)Just wanted to chime in and thank you for this thread, nutmeg. I've been searching for that "perfect" neutral for my kitchen and, after painting it the wrong color last year, I'm back on it now and this thread really helped. Just picked up samples of: -Tobacco Road (I have admired this one for a very long time, but it may be too green for the space) -Whole Wheat (pretty sure this will be the one, but I like choice ;-) -Macadamia (this one may be too neutral for the space) We'll have to see, I'm going kicking and screaming against going too green... I have a dark green ceramic tile floor that I'm just not crazy about, but it cannot be changed right now so I must embrace it to a certain extent. The floor and the lighting (the big obligatory florescent - ick! - another thing to be changed later) are creating havoc with my walls ;-) and the color there now (Valspar Cottage Linen) is too neutral and not dark enough. I do love it in my studio (next door), however, so the excess paint will be used - it's what I call "tuxedo", plays well with black and white. I'll let you know which one I choose......See MorePlease vote - Manchester Tan or Shaker Beige
Comments (16)peytonroad - I would say the MT looks slightly better with the fireplace. But, the Shaker Beige looks ok too. I agree that the fireplace is a big determining factor. Especially since I really love the brick. I want to show it off. Last night was the first night with the Shaker Beige sample on the wall and I did not like it at night at all. Too dark and muddy looking. So, at the moment I am leaning toward the MT. My biggest concern is that it will look too close to the baby turtle in the kitchen. I don't want it to appear as though it's the same color looking slightly different because of the light. I am having such a hard time undersanding why the MT looks so green in my house. I know that lighting makes a big difference, but even without any artificial light, it looks green. The family room gets so much light from all the windows that the lights are never on during the day. Yet it still looks green. I also put a sample up in the master bathroom (also getting painted) and it looks green there too. Yet, almost everyone says it's not green and the pictures I've seen on line and in the Pottery Barn catalog are not green at all. Maybe when it is on all the walls it will look tan? Or more green?...See MoreNeutral Tan color?
Comments (26)Today I tried Latte and Nomadic Desert. I like both of them very much. I have a open floor plan. My kitchen is open to my living and dining space. Kitchen has natural oak cabinets and living/dining space solid natural oak floors. Similar to the pictures by msrose--I am planning to go ahead with kitchen- Nomadic Desert(as this is little lighter) and living/dining with Latte(as this is little dark and warm). Does this look odd because of the open floor plan or as they are from the same family it does not matter? Entire space has chair rails/crown molding is Cream/bone white/half white color. newhomebuilder--thanks for pictures, they all look amazing. It is just that I burnt my hands with BM--I do not understand their undertones that well. All these years I had(and still have until I paint now) BM and did not even think of any other brand. Now I think we narrowed it down to SW colors(first time in my life). Advice appreciated. Jim...See MoreManchester Tan or Halo? Can you share pictures if you have any?
Comments (25)aurora - I think with all your windows, the Manchester Tan would work in your room. I agree with above poster to paint a big area of the wall in your room. peony - sorry it didn't work for you, but thank you for sharing your experience. Good to know it might not work in a room with less natural light. I too noticed the green undertone when I had samples on the wall. In fact, at first I thought it would be too close to the green on my kitchen walls (BM Baby Turtle). Kitchen and family room are very open to each other. But, once the room was painted, I couldn't see any green undertones, even though it's right next to green....See Morepeachypinksunset
