While Pantone thoughtfully named Emerald 2013's overall Color of the Year, I propose crowning sea-glass green — like Benjamin Moore's Palladian Blue HC-144 and Sherwin-Williams' Sea Salt 6204 — as 2013's top interior paint color. This popular hue is a soft and airy color that combines the blue of the sky, the green of the ocean and the opalescence of a pearl.
Appropriate in all types of rooms with any style of architecture, sea-glass green especially shines in light-filled spaces. Bright white ceilings and moldings also contrast beautifully alongside it. In this new year, consider giving your walls a facelift with one of the airiest color out there!

Seaside-inspired colors can work wonderfully in kids' quarters.
Crown molding painted in Benjamin Moore's White Dove OC17 and Arts and Crafts–style window trim contrast beautifully with Palladian Blue walls.
I'm especially fond of using misty hues like Sherwin-Williams' Sea Salt in bathrooms, where their watery undertones are especially befitting.
Osborne & Little's Langdale fabric features a range of seaside colors and looks excellent as the cornice fabric alongside light oceanic walls here.
Light bounces around the walls (in Benjamin Moore's Palladian Blue) and on the cabinets (in White Dove) in this bright kitchen, thanks to the many windows, including the half-circle window above the sink.
This kitchen's custom white Shaker cabinetry and Carrara marble backsplash bring out the opalescence of the wall color.
A bright white built-in buffet pops against these sea-blue walls.
Light turquoise walls are especially appropriate paired with architectural gems like a transom window, five-panel pocket doors and Arts and Crafts interior trim.
Colors similar to sea glass, like Benjamin Moore's Woodlawn Blue HC-147, also particularly thrive in light-filled spaces.
