Joan, yes, it is an expensive hobby to get into and even with practice it can take a few weeks to make one. It really depends on how many hours you work on it at a time.
Last night I spent about three hours rooting a portion of a doll head, and I only got less than a third of it finished.

And once finished, I cross my fingers and hope I can sell it at a price to recoup what I've put into it, and hopefully the time spent working on it. Then, THAT money goes right back into the hobby buying more kits and supplies. It's a never ending circle. But I like making them and seeing the end results.
