Look at the small items. The snowflake scrapers are standard retail and cute (though you can get other styles of scrapers for a lot less). There's also a nice looking cake tester. $5 is a lot for a piece of wire, but there's a nice handle that makes it seem worth the price. The prep bowls with lids are also full retail, but not over.

There's a cute bamboo serving set with a small ladle, fork and spreader that's appropriately priced.

They also have some items that are linked to charities, which might make overspending seem easier.

I bought their garlic press many years ago, and it's a good one. I sold it because I wasn't using it. I prefer mincing garlic with a knife. But it is a fantastic press if you want/use one.

Maybe get a couple of their seasonings? I know most of it can be found cheaper, but a couple of them isn't too bad on the pocketbook.

I'm not sure if I should admit this, but I use the little Quickcut knives and keep a supply. They're perfect for cleaning clams so I keep the kitchen at my SILs beach house stocked with them too.

They have a small nylon turner/spatula with a beveled edge great for a small pan. If they still make the dill mix, I like that and have some here.

I like the little Quickcut knives also. Whatever you get, do NOT get the digital timer. Mine has not worked since about a week after I got it.

Look in their $5 - $25.00 pages. There are a few things that could make a hostes gift. I have been in your position and absolutely did not want anything, the hostess was delighted when I offered to come and bring the food.

I have the pizza stone, which is pretty nice. The other thing I got and I really like is a folding cooling rack. Sits up nice off the counter for cookies and such, and the legs fold for storage.

Oh! and I also got some of the ceramic knives, which are fantastic.

Amanda loves their chopper. I wasn't impressed, but I'm good with a knife, Amanda isn't so much. Anyway, we bought the darned thing at least 10 years ago, maybe more, and it's still intact and working, so that's an indication, maybe.

Do NOT get the oil sprayer, that was the worst piece of junk ever. The first one never worked, the second one worked a couple of times, the third one gave up the ghost after a few uses and then I gave up asking them to replace them.

SIL used to do the demos... and she was GOOD at it, always lots of fun and food involved. After she stopped doing them, she gave me a few things she accumulated.

She SWEARS by the chopper... it works just fine, but I find that the small amount of extra time with a knife outweighs the disassembling of the gadget to clean.

The "V-slicer" works fine, but already had an inexpensive Mouli mandolin that works FINE even after many years.

She used the apple peeler/slicer/corer a LOT when niece was small to prep fruit for snacks. I found another use for it. Was making a BIG batch of real lemon-ade and thought off all that great zest (that I didn't immediately need) just going into trash after juicing. The parts that slice and core can swing out of the way and I ended up with MOUNDS of zest and lemons still intact enough to use reamer on. Air-dried and then ground to make REAL lemon-pepper that didn't have SALT as a main ingredient.

Pizza stone is nice, though NOT any different from every other one to justify possible higher cost.

She had a few demos in her home for something called "Simply" something. All food items. Tasty but seriously over-priced. I found knock-off recipes for a few things people were RAVING about that were much nicer and a fraction of cost.
