Grapples.......

sheesh, Will and I were in the produce section of the grocery store and saw these - look like apples - taste like grapes...I immediately thought - oh no, they've genetically combined apples and grapes?!?!?! But no, it's not that...

The "ingredient" list says apples and artificial grape flavor...

WTF?????

WHY????? Just eat some real grapes for pete's sake. Am I missing something?

Oh, I totally, totally agree with the average (new house) size being much larger than it was. That is really obvious with the mcMansions and even watching one evening of HGTV where engaged folks look at a five bedroom home and shreik......It's soooooo small! LOL. But, when I was a kid, a young married, it wasn't the norm to walk straight from the altar into a brand new house. It wasn't the norm to have your first babies in a brand new house. A brand new house was often the culmination of years of equity building......and many families never really had a brand new house. My folks lived in some modest and some swell homes, but not a single one of them was built brand new. So, the average sized home, according to home builders, were the average sized NEW BUILT. And it was indeed a cycle, because even my 200 year old "old" home is larger than the average new home of today. As were many Victorians. There was a small middle class in that era, and the rich had BIG homes, and the poor little ones. The middle class just got richer, is all. I loved it when my kids came home to roost for awhile. I was in my glory and it worked well......suppose it was a carryover from single motherhood, where we had to learn to function as a unit to survive. Also 'moved' back with my folks for a very short while when I first moved here and I know they were in their glory too. I had 'independence' issues, however. LOL. Baggage like that, even normal baggage can make the experience harrowing. If you can move past it or endure it cheerfully for the short term, it can work.

Great message thread - I'm "grappling" with a wide plank floor for a kitchen too. Anderson has an expensive line (Biltmore)with the Titanium finish that you can only find at dealers and Armstrong has the next best I found so far which is a little less $ but up there (Anderson Locking Floor - Australian Wormy Chestnut - "Antique Heritage" is rustic.) So I'm thinking of eandhl's advise and installing real oak planks but my contractor told me they only go up to 5" which I can live with. I also ran across across the Rustic Plank Flooring site a couple of weeks ago. The material looks nice but I hesitate to order without seeing an installation. Also what about the warranty service - the company is in PA and I'm in MA.

I noted in the Cooking forum discussion that what I read read pointed out that there are chocolate manufacturers whose products were found to contain lower, dare I say, safer levels of these heavy metals, which shows it would be possible for others to do the same. Apparently, drying the cacao outdoors on the ground is what's contaminating it, so it's not a given that this is unavoidable. There are a lot of business/manufacturing processes that are harmful. We do not need to just accept them.

" .if you have automatic updates turned on. " I believe having automatic updates set to the "on" setting is a default. When you buy the device, that's what it does. That's also typically the case for other electronic items that have periodic updates, like operating system updates on PCs. I'd be willing to bet that the majority of iPhone owners don't know where this setting is.

Does it have the texture of an apple and the taste of a grape? Like someone injected artificial grape flavor into an apple? I've never heard of this. Sounds awful

yup, dedtired - that's what it sounds like - and it really does look just like an apple.

Gina and barnmom - it just figures...we are so far behind the times around here - you'd think the disgusting or nonsensical stuff would just fizzle out before we were subjected to it! Watch, they'll just love these things in Western NY - lol.

Who comes up with these ideas?

I thought they were gross. I didn't taste grape flavor, just an overwhelming smell of what Eileen said, an icky grape popsicle. I'd call it a crap-ple!

Crapple, I love it!

Thankfully they have not made there way north of the border....well at least not to my neck of the woods.

Sounds just awful , don't want to even think how they came to be. YUCK!

I had no idea that's what they were. I've seen them, and thought they were an apple variety that just had a kind of grape taste to them. I'm glad I've never bought them. Why can't food just be real?

Oh Stacy I saw those last year and picked up the package and smelled them. Ew! Artificial Grape smell, like koolaide! I put them back down.
