Any magazine subscriptions you may have. They will only forward them for so long, same way with any mail. So let your friends and relatives know too your new address. You will have to fill out a card at your post office I believe.

Don't trust the PO to forward everything without a
Glitch.

Don't forget to have your drivers' licenses changed to show your new address and inform your credit card companies as well.

Credit cards, banks, doctors, dentists...basically any bill you get or anyone you owe money to or anyone that is holding your money (retirement accounts, etc). The PO will forward your mail for awhile, but you are still required to let all of them know of your new address.

Postal mail and magazines have different rules about forwarding. First Class mail gets forwarded for a longer time and more quickly than Second Class mail and forget about Third Class being forwarded. Also, if you have anything addressed to "occupant" or "resident" it won't be forwarded. You can contact the company to see it they will continue to send you their flyers and catalogs if you still want to receive them. If you regularly receive contracted for packages for anything ranging from medications through the mail, or even belonging to a 'cheese of the month club' type service, you will have to contact the company directly to change the address.

Don't forget any seasonal services like snow plowing or lawn mowing that you have contracted for. You don't want some poor guy to start the regular work and then try to collect and find out there are new owners at the property.

Any regular delivery services contracted for like Peapod or it's equivalent.

Anything hand delivered. (Does anybody still get newspapers delivered these days anymore?)

Even if you do not have a contract with a company it is polite to let them know you are moving so they don't keep coming around looking for you to be home. I know the Schwans truck guys often just ring the door bell of a "regular" checking to see if they want anything off of the truck.

I Envy you..... Your living in my hometown.. I miss home so much, enjoy your time there..Someday I may go back to live I don't know yet.. But I will always have fond memories of home

The PO will forward 1st class mail for a year. If you forget anything, that should give you time to make the necessary changes. Don't get too wound up over it--it will all work out. Good luck with the move.

Boy, you guys are good! So far today, I've notified the insurance company, magazine subscriptions, newspapers, Airmiles, post office, phone, t.v., internet, gas company, and hydro. And I'm not anywhere near done!

It seems like quite awhile aince we got together with Melanie when she was home one time.

Check the buying and selling forum. Somewhere I read there is a check list. You might google checklist for moving or something to that effect. Also, if you did all this thru a realtor, ask them. Moving companies also have lists. Then you can kind of make up your own after reveiewing others.

A good place to start is the bills you pay. Look through your checkbook & credit card statements, address book, email address lists and the like. That should give you a good start.

I have a few lists that were compiled and some of my own additions. Some apply to some and of course some have special things like special clinics, Vets Administration, VFW clubs or the like. Any professional services. Monitor your mail of course.

I didn't find it to be such a major pain. I made a form letter and sent to the ones I didn't handle by phone.

Regarding your license....you have 10 days to change the address..so not to worry about that until you move in(no province change,just the address and they do not charge)
And be sure to let your family doctors know that this is happening.

I think cynic's list missed one - if that's possible! Airline frequent flyer clubs.
