There is no great way to search this forum. The best way is to just ask. Most everyone on this forum is happy to post or repost any recipe. You won't get slammed , I promise.

Actually I love it when someone asks for a recipe, many new people have not seen many of the great recipes posted here. For those of us who have been around a bit ( no comments !!!) sometimes it's a great reminder.

Magothyrivergirl, welcome to the cooking forum. The best way to find a recipe that you are looking for is to just post a request. No one minds posting a recipe again or providing a link to a current thread.

A few of us would like to see all posted recipes saved to the FAQ. For those that just lurk or like to search it would make finding recipes so much easier.

Usually, I don't use the search engine on any of the forums. I go straight to google and enter as many keys words as I can recall
Example: I was looking for Annie's Grandmother's Apple Butter ... I got a zillion non-applicable responses using the Forum search. Typed in Annie grandmother apple butter using Google, and guess what popped up.
You'll be surprised at the number of Garden Web links that come up.
I've also just started using the "clip this post" feature you'll find in the top right corner of each post. That's a good way for rapid retrival of recipes. Much better than printing out dozens of recipes which get lost.l

Ann - I keep looking in the FAQ - at the top of the page - right? I only see 2 recipes - not complaining - it is nice of you to organize and do it - just wondered if I"m going to the right place.
Kay- I finally found it - thru google - the Green Chile & Brie Soup recipe. I know I printed it - lost somewhere on my desk I'm sure - I started emailing them to myself, so now they are mixed up in my business emails! Sounds like I need the organizing forum more then the cooking forum doesn't it?
I have been trying many of the recipes posted. I have always been a versatile cook, although I do not bake. My brain doesn't like the exactness required! So, thank you for the wonderful menu ideas and the pictures!

I think the very nature of this forum frustrates the forum search engine. :D If all anyone did was post recipess, it would be easy, but half the attraction here is talking about the food and the WFD thread, so if you try to search you get a bazillion threads.

I've found it helpful to keep Word open while I'm reading. Then I can do a fast copy/past/save. I start the copy/paste with the recipe name, so when I save the file, MS Word defaults to that title for the file name. Long as there are no hyphens in the recipe name, it works great. Usually the only thing I have to add before saving is the poster's name or the source of the recipe. If the poster has put their name at the end of the post, so much the better!

You can always clip the part of the post you want too..
click on the right upper part of the individual posters part of the thread..That way GW, holds your "storage" too..
Then if it's a recipe I'm actually using..I copy to word and save.

Google's advanced search lets you search only on this site.

Hi Magothyrivergirl, welcome! This is a very friendly forum and we'll be glad to help all we can.

When a recipe is posted that I think I'd like to try, I save it (cut and paste) to another online site, then I just go there and print it when I'm ready to give it a try. I also save any of my T+T recipes that I post here, so that I can repost quick if someone needs it. I started doing it this way because I wanted to make sure I didn't lose everything if my computor crashed. I was on a pretty old one...now I have a new computor but find it's easy to continue using the other site.

My saved recipes are at Recipe Circus.com along with a gazillion others. Nice site.

Oh yes, try a search and if you don't find what you want, then just post and ask for it. Someone will have a copy or maybe something similar.

The forum search engine does not always give the same results so it really does not do a thorough search. Plus there is limited space for the archives and with every new post another falls off into Never-Never-Land.

I just bumped up the "Favorite Chicken Recipe Redux" thread for you. It is a good one but unfortunately the original thread is lost forever but another was started.

I can see from all these wonderful responses , I am not alone in my frustration! I temporarily loose recipes at home also! I say it is a sign of a good cook - 1000's of recipes in what looks like no particular order!

You can also save an entire thread to your computer. So for "Favorite Chicken Recipes Redux" right-click on the title. Then on the window that comes up click "Save Target As".

You'll see a window with "Save In" at the top. You can pick a file you already have on your computer (like "Recipes") or create a new file (like "Cooking Forum").

At the bottom of that window you'll see "File Name" and then "msg122046474409". Select that and type in the name you want to give it, like "Favorite Chicken Recipes."

Below that you'll see "Save as Type." Be sure it says HTML Document.

Then click "Save" and the entire thread with all the recipes is saved on your computer. You can open it and read it and it will look just like it did on this forum.

This sounds more complicated than it is. Once you've done it you'll see it's easy. It's a good way to save "rich" threads with a lot of information or recipes you would like to keep. You can still cut-and-paste from that thread later if you try a recipe and want it elsewhere for your regular recipe files.

Then if the thread drops off the Cooking Forum, it doesn't matter. You have the entire thing.
