Pie beans

I recently found this forum and have been enjoying all the various threads. (Even got me scrubbing my grandmother's baking sheets (at least 80 years old) until they sparkle). But reading the thread on pumpkin pie raised a question that I have always had. If you use beans while baking an empty pie shell, can they be put back with the rest of the beans and cooked as usual? Or will baking them make them impervious to soaking and cooking? I hate to waste anything, but have always thrown them away in the past not knowing whether they would be okay for cooking.
