I wanted to share pictures of my master bath reno with the Decorating forum since I came here for advice/inspiration for it, our bedroom and dining room renovations. The other areas are still a work in progress but it's almost done! There are two pages. Click on the thumbnails for a larger photo. Hope you like it. I LOVE it :) DH did everything except the plumbing and paint.

Beautiful bathroom Monica!!!. How high up is your tile? I am in the middle of a MB too. Can't wait for it to be finished.

1) Tubs generally come in two standard sizes: 60" and 66". Both will fit in your 74" space. Just double check the specs to make sure before ordering. The main consideration will be allowing space for the water pipes/faucet. 2) You're right that there won't be a mass produced vanity that will cleanly fit your exact space and have a lower, "sit down" area just where you want it. You'll need to go custom or semi custom. Pine is a soft wood and has knots; it's a good look for a rustic bathroom. Oak has obvious graining which has caused it to fall out of favor over the last decade. Look at using maple as it's a small grained wood that takes a wide variety of stains well. Birch is another option and may be lower priced than maple. If you want to go very low end, there's laminate over mdf board, but if you're choosing high end materials like Carrera tile it would be a real mismatch for your bathroom. You should definitely not use a porous stone like marble for the countertop if you are concerned about stains and scratches. Look into granite or quartz to coordinate with your tile choices. 5) Sounds really busy, but I'm no designer. You might search for photos of bathroom with mirrors and lights on houzz.com and see what appeals most to you. 6) Mirrors can be situated along any wall, interior or exterior. It will sit flush is the wall is level. 7) I think every bathroom needs at least one exhaust fan to handle humidity and steam from the shower and bath. As far as the chandy, it might look wonderful or it might look too busy (especially if you go with all those mirrors and lights). Consider searching houzz.com again for inspiration photos to guide you.

We desired natural simplicity while avoiding a venture into pure minimalism. We sought to defy categorization, intentionally mixing styles, retaining traditional stained glass while adding modern contrasts. For example, we combined mission-style cabinetry with contemporary plumbing hardware, reflecting just a degree of modernism. Function and health were both emphasized. olychick, thank you for taking a look. :) I'm relieved to hear you think a white shower pan is best. I am heading out now to find porcelain marble look tiles for the shower walls to pick up the gray as you suggested. I want a shiny finish to the walls. Tell me if you think that's a misstep. I am avoiding marble as I have a marble topped vanity now that is pock marked with etchings. As far as seeing myself in the vanity, yes, I think I will be able to do so. I was planning on a black framed mirror spanning the vanity. My current vanity is 32 1/4" high (as will be the new vanity) and when seated on my vanity stool my reflection is seen up to my chest. The only issue currently is that my knees are pressed against drawers. I failed to mention that I was thinking of using absolute black granite for the vanity top for two reasons: one being cost and the other being to avoid etching. Will doing so deviate too much from my inspiration? are there bedrooms down there as well? if someone will be using the bedroom in the basement, then they will want a decent bathroom to go with it. 6 inches really isn't worth the hassle of taking down or moving a wall. A foot, maybe, 6" ? no. once you put on the wall or tile, you've got maybe 4" total. Maximize the space by choosing a good vanity w/storage, and possibly building a niche into the wall for additional storage. (use the area between the studs as a built in cabinet) using a prefab shower is fine, but pick a decent one as opposed to those flimsy acrylic pieces. you don't say want the resale value is, so i have no way of knowing how much you should invest. You say you bought mid-range, but I don't know what else you need to redo. anything under a 15% profit really isn't worth it. as for fitting it over the existing drains, usually you will need the new drain cover. if the drain needs to come up, there are extensions. I would advise your husband to do some research on how to fit those into an existing bathroom. If he's handy and can build his own slope, mortar bed and waterproof the shower, then he could prob tile it himself. Just depends on how much work you want to do and what the return is on what you choose. by the looks of what you have there currently, you may have some water damage underneath all the mess. Tear out what you can and then determine what you need to do.

Holy Cow! Your Dh did that woodworking? I'm drooling! It's stunning! And did I read that it's maple? Usually maple doesn't take dark stain very well, but yours is just gorgeous! Great job on everything!

lindybarts: No, no no! I'm SO sorry :o DH did NOT do the custom vanity. I swear, I (thought) I went thru every aspect to make sure I mentioned what he didn't do (since he did most of it). He WANTED to build the vanity and cabinet and could have (but probably not as well as the cabinet maker did).
dlm99: entire *wainscoting* including the accent pieces is about 37" I believe.
Thanks for all the nice comments :) It's been a long 8 months and it's still not over :o At least I'm back in my own bathroom and we're no longer sharing a 5x8 bathroom :)

LOL...okay, so it was the custom cabinet maker...they are very nice. But if dh did all that tile work...still STUNNING! Tell him great job!

Yes, he DID do the tile work :) Here is a picture of a mitered outside corner. I didn't realize what the big deal was with a mitered corner (I've since been MADE aware) LOL. He's quite pleased with his little self :) We're very fortunant he can do most anything construction related. It's afforded us some very nice upgrades that we wouldn't have otherwise.

As long as I'm here at the *decorating* forum, do any of you have some decorating ideas? I don't care for a lot of things sitting out on counters and I want to keep the accessorizing to a minimum. Anything I do add I would want it to be natural elements and glass. I'm thinking (and trust me, I'm NOT good at this) some kind of floating shelf on the wall beside the tub with grasses, reeds, polished or natural stones, maybe a shell, sand... I can't put these things together, I would just have to SEE it somewhere and buy it :( I'm open and appreciative to all suggestions :)

select a large clear glass vase, or apothacary jar alternate layers of blue and green sea glass with some shells in layers,fill it almost to the top.Arrange it on your glass shelf with a small starfish or large shell and a piece of coral.I did this in my bathroon and it lo0ks terrific. I got most of my materials at a large pet store in the aquariam section.The sea glass I used was fairly chunky. i used a very large brandy snifter shaped vase.This would pick up the colors from your glass tile.

weenean, the color on the walls is BM's Lenox Tan. The ceiling is SW's Rain. A list of all materials used can be found at the very end of the photo gallery :)

Love it. It came together wonderfully. I love how the chandelier creates art on the ceiling.

Wonderful long expanse of counter (very jealous). And I'm really glad you didn't go with the pendants (I think you were contemplating this at one time?). The arch is beautiful and you wouldn't want to interfere.

Thanks budge1. Yes, my original plan was to go with pendants. Sure wish I hadn't wasted all that time and energy searching for the right pendants (lol) Recessed lighting was definitely the right way to go :)

It is exceptionally beautiful and comfortable looking,too.
Just one sug, the Tapmaster white foot pedal is too noticeable. Not sure what other colors are available. I have one in a matte silver that is barely discernible. You might want to check it out.

Where you the one that made the post about a year ago on tile colors using neutrals or these? Might have been on the bathroom forum.

Anyway, you guys did good on the remodel! Loved your photos.

btw, also looked at some of your albums while I was there, such a pretty bride!

I just came across your post; how can you ever leave that room, it has all the makings of a first class spa. the color scheme is amazing, great job.

A silver tray with perfume bottles or bath products that pick up your colors could sit on the left of the sink. Just wait until you stumble upon something perfect !!

I don't get the washlet though ( sorry just kidding, after all the posts in the bath forum !!!)

ysop1016, Yeah, I don't know what I was thinking. There wasn't a choice of colors in 02 when I bought one for the kitchen. Guess I was thinking of the light tiles. Corrine said I could change out the plates if I wanted. I want, I just haven't gotten around to doing it yet.

roselvr, yes, that was me. I had my heart set on the "Sea Tones" tiles but considered the "Earth Tones" set as well. Both are beautiful and I would have been happy with both but I wanted to go with my heart and the vision I'd had for two years.
You were able to SEE the wedding album? Oh, that must be my niece's album. I had to password protect my daughter's wedding album because some sexually explicit comments.

mitchdesj, leave the bathroom? You mean I'm supposed to leave it after all that hard work? (lol) I have no decorating talent. I'll just have to wait till I'm out somewhere and "stumble" upon something. Trying to keep stuff off the counter tho. Whatever I do I want to keep it to a minimum and mostly natural materials and glass for sparkle.
"I don't get the Washlet" (sigh) SOME people! (lol)

chicoryflower, the dryer is the one feature that really doesn't work too well. I guess it would if you were willing to sit there long enough but I don't use it. All the other features are great and work very well.
