Master bathroom renovation project completed

After nearly four months of renovation work, our new master bathroom was recently completed. The entire space was completely redesigned, with major floor plan, plumbing and electrical changes. It is difficult to decide which aspect of the new bathroom we appreciate most, so we're not going to even make the attempt.

Nice job! That is one large room. I love the granite, tub and cabinets. We have a similar granite and cabinets. The counter space and storage it offers is fabulous.

1) Tubs generally come in two standard sizes: 60" and 66". Both will fit in your 74" space. Just double check the specs to make sure before ordering. The main consideration will be allowing space for the water pipes/faucet. 2) You're right that there won't be a mass produced vanity that will cleanly fit your exact space and have a lower, "sit down" area just where you want it. You'll need to go custom or semi custom. Pine is a soft wood and has knots; it's a good look for a rustic bathroom. Oak has obvious graining which has caused it to fall out of favor over the last decade. Look at using maple as it's a small grained wood that takes a wide variety of stains well. Birch is another option and may be lower priced than maple. If you want to go very low end, there's laminate over mdf board, but if you're choosing high end materials like Carrera tile it would be a real mismatch for your bathroom. You should definitely not use a porous stone like marble for the countertop if you are concerned about stains and scratches. Look into granite or quartz to coordinate with your tile choices. 5) Sounds really busy, but I'm no designer. You might search for photos of bathroom with mirrors and lights on houzz.com and see what appeals most to you. 6) Mirrors can be situated along any wall, interior or exterior. It will sit flush is the wall is level. 7) I think every bathroom needs at least one exhaust fan to handle humidity and steam from the shower and bath. As far as the chandy, it might look wonderful or it might look too busy (especially if you go with all those mirrors and lights). Consider searching houzz.com again for inspiration photos to guide you.

As a contractor I would have no problem if you chose to tip my workers, but certainly it isn't expected. As for me, no. I have had clients give me a gift certificate to a restaurant, which I and my wife enjoyed, but certainly it is not expected. We've also received other "gifts" from customers, generally of a relevant nature, and often "art related" (we have a LOT of artistic dragonfly related items :)

Post some pictures. But, that’s not a minor project at all! That’s gutting everything and starting over. Baths are the most mistake prone and expensive of all home renovations. Are you working with a contractor or designer already? This is the only chance you will get to do this. Do it right!

Yes, i did something very similar. I did the design myself, but hired hired a contractor. I don't think its a DIY job. We moved our toilet and the tub drain was also shifted a bit to handle the new freestanding tub but i found one with an end drain so it wasn't much of a move. I assume this is a total gut job? Floors, etc? I would be happy to give you some input on the design if you post a drawing of the space with measurements. Here's some pics of mine. I stole some space from two closets to make this work - but it was well worth it. We originally had a wall separating the shower and toilet areas from the sink and tub areas. I also replaced an old garden style window and its so much more open and brighter now. Here's some pics of mine.

Wow, what a huge space! I would get lost in there. I love the sinks and vanity, which is ironic because our vanity was also done by Dressen Designs, and we also just finished out bathroom a few weeks ago. Great job on your new space.

Great job. We recently got rid of the massage tub and replaced with a freestanding tub. Your cabinets are beautiful and it's so much more functional now. I am sure you are really enjoying your new space!!!

the old one was pretty fine! the new one just awesome! it's lightened up with the change in wood tone. The wood is beautiful (old and new). those windows are gorgeous! I'd go in there just to 'visit' on a regular basis - just to look at it all - lol!

The tiling is also so much better. I love the larger tiles.

i'd need lessons on using the shower (and a cheat sheet - water proof) but I think I'd really love the jets in it.

what is the tub material?

Love the new bathroom & especially the closet! Gorgeous wood all around! The tub surrounded by the beautiful windows really sets the stage. Enjoy!

I love it! Those windows -ooh,la,la! the sconces are some I considered so I love seeing them in someone else's bathroom. It is all the perfect modern rustic look.

Thanks to all . . . just glad to have a hot bath again after nearly five years. The previous party tub "time machine" would take an hour to fill, and we ran out of hot water about a third of the way to full!

For my wife, the steam shower is a great help for her asthma and allergies, opening her sinuses and helping her congestion.

That's beautiful--modern rustic is a good name for it.

And speaking of names, just have to ask: what does SonicAgamemnon refer to? Ancient Greek Tragedy was one of my graduate focus areas, so it caught my eye...please share, if you're inclined! (why do I keep thinking "Dr. Who visits 5th century b.c. Athens?" :))

We desired natural simplicity while avoiding a venture into pure minimalism. We sought to defy categorization, intentionally mixing styles, retaining traditional stained glass while adding modern contrasts. For example, we combined mission-style cabinetry with contemporary plumbing hardware, reflecting just a degree of modernism.

Function and health were both emphasized. The steam shower provides relief for various respiratory, sinus and skin conditions. The copper sinks and bath tub not only compliment the dÃÂ©cor, they offer important antimicrobial properties that reduce bacteria and lower the risk of infection.

Regarding SonicAgamemnon, that can be loosely interpreted as Ã¢ÂÂMusical King.Ã¢ÂÂ I freely admit the handle is completely delusional!

Wow!! I've never seen anything like it. Love the copper tub with the stained glass. The room is huge! I agree, I'd need a tutorial on using the shower!

The hot water recirculation line and thermostatic valves are a life saver as we learn how to use the shower. Without that, turning on the wrong handle by accident would result in a shocking rush of cold water!

Then again, maybe that would force us to remember what each handle controls...

Just in case you are still on this forum now that your truly wonderful bathroom renovation has been completed .....

Have you been pleased with your tub?

We've been looking for a deep soaking tub (ideally 21" of water depth). They are few and far between -- and VERY expensive. But Signature Hardware seems to have several good options are more reasonable prices. But I've not found many reviews of their tubs -- which they seem to have made for them.

Yes, the copper bathtub from Signature is working out just fine; they have several deep and extended copper tubs that are priced better than any local or regional source here in the Northwest, and that includes the cost of a crated delivery.
