Then maybe shift the W/D to next to the window which gives the toilet more room to face the way it was. Put the shower next to the door with a narrow linen closet separating it from the W/D. Maybe add a stackable small laundry closet there and still have a very large closet. In both of these cases, it seems like the w/d would cover up a window, which I was hoping to avoid. It's a row home with other taller buildings around it, so I like to keep as much light as possible. Do you think it's worth covering up the window anyway? It is more inconvient, disruptive and expensive to change your toilet location in reality. I didn't actually move the toilet flange location, I just rotated the toilet and changed it to a 14 inch rough-in instead of the 10 inch version I currently have. (Specifically looking at the Kohler Wellworth Classic Five.) My cursory googling seemed to indicate this was ok. Is that a bad idea? If you had a spacious well layout bath you might find your closet is no longer your favorite room, I sure did. The shoes and bags live in the closet, so I don't think that's ever going to change! Haha! :)

Post some pictures. But, that’s not a minor project at all! That’s gutting everything and starting over. Baths are the most mistake prone and expensive of all home renovations. Are you working with a contractor or designer already? This is the only chance you will get to do this. Do it right!

Thx everyone. I originally had the shower lined up with/the same depth as the toilet room then changed it worrying about the walking space being tight behind the vanity. i can change it back. I thought maybe by making shower smaller i could avoid pushing into the hall. But I’ll line it back up. if i line shower back up with toilet room there will be 50 inches walking space between the vanity and wall with the shower and toilet room. How much space needs to be there? How far should i push into the hall? by cased opening i mean the cased opening between the “room” with the tub and the “room” with the shower vanity and toilet. Since the vanity sits inside the wall I had to make that wall part of a giant cased opening because i don’t like unfinished walls. below is a pic of what i call an unfinished wall. It just stops. It’s not a corner and it’s not an entrance or a cased opening. I know most people don‘t mind them. They just bother me for some reason. You’ll often see them on the side of refrigerators. Call me crazy. It’s just a strange hang up of mine. 🙃

From just seeing the plan, this looks like a large bathroom with a decently functional plan. The beauty of a wall and door around the toilet is that one person can be in the toilet while another person is at the sink. Also, the - ahem - smells are more contained so a person can go to the toilet, turn on the fan, and close the door, and the smell won't disturb them while they shower or bathe. If that isn't how you live, by all means, tear down the walls, but you don't have to move the toilet to remove the walls. You talked about moving the tub and/or expanding the shower, but I'm not 100% clear about what you don't like in the current layout on that side of the room. If you're just looking for a bigger shower, I'd take out the linen closet. Expand the shower that way. Then, put a tall cabinet between the vanity and the bathtub (no pipes need to move for this plan, let me know if you need me to do a quick sketch to show what I mean). Or, turn the toilet and put in a new linen closet to the left of the door (the toilet would only need to move a small amount, quick sketch below)
