I don't need to restate anything I've already said in the seven years since this topic was started. What year is this? 2016? Okay I've used cornmeal on my lawn every year for the past 14 years and it's worked for me. Your mileage may vary. It does not seem to work against red thread, rust, or whatever the fungus is caused by 2 weeks of saturation rainfall. The specific problem and specific conditions were a variety of assorted fungal diseases on peanut plants. The suggestion was made that by using ordinary corn meal against a variety of diseases (which are common in all gardens), that a farmer would get the same effect as crop rotation. What that means is by using the corn meal a farmer would not have to rotate his crops every year, and he could plant peanuts year after year. That is a huge bonus for a peanut farmer. The paragraph on corn meal was buried in a very long list of possible attacks against disease in peanuts. Doing an experiment once is not considered to be scientifically relevant. Why it was not continued or picked up by other researches is beyond comprehension...unless someone with deeper pockets did not want the research done. TAMU was well known as deeply anti-organic in the 1990s and 2000s. From what I've seen the 2010s are only marginally better than previous decades. As Betty said in her original post corn meal worked for her. It worked for me, too, 14 times. I believe it was working for Ms Iannotti, too, but she did not recognize it as working. She said the corn meal turned moldy. That mold she was seeing, assuming it was the blue-green trichoderma, is exactly the fungus that works against her diseased plants. By not knowing what she was doing, she missed an opportunity to learn something.

It could be rancid, or the sesame seeds were roasted too long, low-quality seeds used, or any number of things. I'd suggest making it yourself so you can control the quality. It's yet one more food where fresh-is-best, plus it's so easy to make. If tahini tends to be a refrigerator orphan (use once and forget you have it, you'll save a lot of money by making it yourself - as needed. When you only need a "dab" of tahini for a recipe or snack, make enough for one serving in a coffee/spice mill (preferably, one that hasn't been used for coffee) and the recipe uses 2 T. of sesame seeds (soaked, raw, or roasted - your choice) milled until the blended seeds stick to the walls of the coffee/spice mill. Remove it from the mill and add a teaspoon of oil and a pinch of salt. If you like lemon juice in it, add a little fresh juice or a sprinkle of "True Lemon" crystallized lemon works well, too. You can also make it using an emersion blender or regular blender, and there are all kinds of recipes for doing so you can find on-line. Find one you like, or make it your own mixture. I like to make a mixture of sesame seeds and sunflower seeds occasionally. I usually pretreat sesame seeds and sunflower seeds by soaking them overnight in lightly-salted water (which encourages sprouting). Drain and dehydrate. Now there isn't as much bitterness. I came here to find info and boy oh boy did I! I found that some of the info here is REALLY biased in favor of the new wife. Before I continue, I want you to know that I'm on both sides of the fence. I'm an ex w/child & I'm think'n of marry'n a man with an ex w/child who manipulates & controls as well. So, I can see both sides. To organic_maria; when I read parts of your post, my blood boiled. How do you think that you and your husband can go and take away from another child because you now have one of your own. Ya can't do that! If he could not afford 2 children then he should not have had another baby! But you CAN NOT rob Peter to pay Paul! You can not take from one household to put into yours. I don't care what "SHE" has. That baby is "HIS" responsiblity as well. Unfortunately, you won't get this (foolish lady) until after he breaks his vows & divorces YOU, leaves YOU w/children, remarry's & has children by his new wife & then takes food out of YOUR child's mouth to be able to feed his new family at the command of his NEW WIFE.
