Help: advice needed choosing backsplash for kitchen
Comments (14)I have also been lurking here and absorbing lots of great advice. I'm very interested to hear suggestions on this, as we're also getting seafoam green granite. I was waiting for the cabinets to be done and granite installed before asking for suggestions as pictures definitely help. Our cabinets will be a medium tone stain. This granite is kind of "in between" as far as pattern goes. Not nearly as much movement as say, Bordeaux, but not evenly uniform, so you can't get too carried away with a fancy backsplash. I was thinking maybe matte subway tile, but wanted some sort of decorative element too. I love the look of glass tile, but it may not be right for a traditional kitchen. Meg, great seafoam slabs! Those are have really nice color and pattern....See MoreVintage glass knobs on white cabinets?
Comments (15)lynn, apologies. I see that I misread your initial post. My only advice about the pull you posted would be to get one and make sure there's enough space behind it to grab it comfortably. This is a tip I learned here on GW. By searching the finished kitchen photos you can see all kinds of knobs and pulls on white cabinets. This will give you an idea of whether you like the contrast provided by a darker metal against the white background or whether you prefer less contrast....See MoreNeed help choosing a hardware finish
Comments (12)My color scheme is almost identical. I am also getting the Gilmore pulls and the Starlight Chrome Bridgeford faucet. I am not sure which pulls to get, but am considering the oil-rubbed bronze, just to avoid the challenge of 'matching' everything. I agree that I am sticking with the chrome for the faucet (I think it looks the most classic) and the other details will work themselves out. I don't think the faucet will be close enough to the pulls to make the difference in finish that obvious, plus, it sounds like you don't really want to make the switch : ) I also like the suggestion herbflavor made re: the crystal knobs....See MoreChoosing finishes! Why is this so hard??!?!?
Comments (18)zippity1 The fact is that the labor and equipment required to apply a "paint" to cabinets (not actual paint, but baked on catalyzed conversion varnish is more expensive. The wood may or may not be cheaper depending upon the species (painted cabinets are still made of wood, no? - my painted cabs are made of alder with the exception of the center door panel). I've had 4 places quote my cabinets and every single one of them came back at least 10% higher for paint. One was 50% higher. Like I said, "painted" can mean a lot of things. Painting an MDF cabinet door by spraying it, in place, which I have seen in on HGTV and DIY network for example, will result in a less than durable finish. Hand-painting also. A factory applied "paint" (which is not paint) is certainly more expensive than stained. Every day of the week. Every RTA cabinet maker I've looked into charges more for painted. It's a HUGE red flag that they are saying to the Katie that painting is cheaper. HUGE. What kind of "paint" is that?...See Moremegsy
