Choosing finishes! Why is this so hard??!?!?

We are in the bid phase on our home. Waiting on contractors to decide on their final bids- trying to see where we can save and what we are set on having. This is our first and forever home.

We first picked a stain for our kithen cabinets with oil rubbed bronze pulls, doorknobs, and light fixtures throughout the house. I was in love with the finishes and fixtures. I was never 100% on the stained wood. I preferred paint but wasn't sure about color. Now prices are coming up and we can save a by doing paint quality versus stained quality cabinets.

We have decided to do a medium to dark gray paint on kitchen cabinets. I'm in love! But now I'm not sure the oil rubbed bronze finishes will work. The pics I see with brushed nickel look amazing!! I could, give up my,cabinet pulls but what about my doorknobs and light fixtures? I love the industrial look of the lights I've chosen.

How bad is mixing finishes?? How can I do it without looking tacky? Any help is appreciated.
