Why is shopping for large drawer pulls so hard? Guru help! (pics)

This is driving me nutsÂall I want is six 8"drawer pulls and five 6" matching pulls in brushed nickel (IÂm reusing my nickel knobs on wall cabs on budget kitchen) I want something along the lines of a transitional look. I would like something that will look right with the big pulls on the kitchen aid appliances without exactly matching because they are not my favÂs but handle replacement is not in budget. Below is a picture of old kitchen with a visual of the oven handle & the new French door frig handle is close to the same.

I donÂt know if IÂm doing wrong type of searches or what but I just get 100Âs of pages of 3" pulls. When I goggle larger pulls it seems most of my choices are appliance pulls $$$$.

I hit the Restoration Hardware site and like the meatiness of the pulls put didnÂt see any that inspired meÂalthough their site is easy with matching sizes up and at the top end of my price range but withine. Where else can I look or do you have any ideas on pulls that may work? Or, do I have to even think of following the curve of kitchen aid handle somewhat?

We wanted a transitional look to our kitchen as well, and we went with Top Knobs Princetonian line. They have all different sizes, and we mixed 3 inch, 5 inch, 8 inch and 11 inch's I believe.

Below is a link of a site showing all the sizes available. We did not order from this place but they have decent pictures.

For me personally, I don't feel compelled to match the handles on my appliances. If that were the case, then there would be no need for all of the beautiful variations of hardware that are available. And "variety is the spice of life!"

Also, if you haven't already, check out the Finished Kitchens Blog (FKB). It's a great resource to see what others have done and thus refine your own preferences. The link below is the the "Categories" page of the FKB, where you can choose to look at members' kitchens based on any number of factors (i.e. cabinet color, countertop type, cab mfr., kitchen size, etc, etc).

Sarah, If you have museum putty, you can try that to hold the pulls in place too. Or cut squares of cardboard the appropriate colour- or at least put carpet underneath, in case they fall off! In your case, cuz you have one single drawer above, I'd go with single pulls. That's assuming you have very good quality glides like Blum. I have single pulls on 36" wide pots and pans drawers- like you I knew I'd only be opening them with one hand. I actually prefer the look of two pulls and with Blum glides, I don't think it would hurt to pull the drawers open just on one side- but there was miscommunication between DH and I, and before I blinked, he had installed one handle in the middle! So, functionally, with good glides, it doesn't matter. It's your choice as to which look you prefer. I noted that on all my 'furniture', the drawers have two pulls - though they are antiques with wooden glides, so that may be why.

Really frustrating part.. is there is no more Tide W/ Bleach Powder with a "clean" scent. The Clean Breeze scent... is gone. And the new "Original" scent... sticks to fabrics, and smells horrible. I was looking on the Tide website, last night. And I swear... it seems like there's a thousand less powders available. It's just, so modest, so little. Yet there's two million different liquids, in different scents. So... disappointing to say the least. Powder Wise. The ones I know I can find easily, locally are... Fab, Cheer, Tide, Gain, Xtra, Purex, All (F&C) and Arm & Hammer. Then there's American Ariel & Phosphate Free Foca and Roma. But... you better like whatever's on the shelf. Because there's typically just one or two different variety's. Sad... because when I was growing up, I remember shopping with my mom at Target... and seeing a one whole side, of an entire aisle of just Powder Detergents, in a million different options. Now... it's pretty slim. I think it's quite different overseas though. And in Mexico, almost everyone seems to use Powder, exclusively.

"Doors and drawers not shutting properly is a classic symptom of a "racked" cabinet." It is also a classic symptom of the freight company being a little rough, shifting the back or the drawer glide. Racked drawers, not cabinets, happens every time I stand a cabinet on its side to carry it down the hall and into the bathroom by myself. A headache is a classic symptom of a brain tumor, but seldom does a headache mean you need to get an MRI before taking an aspirin. "not just one drawer. Its all drawers." A cabinet that is "racked" is still square at the bottom drawer due to the bottom panel of the cabinet keeping it square unless the cabinet is broken. Your guess would be more likely if it was way more predominant on just the top drawers, a little on all the middle drawer, and not really noticeable on all the bottom drawers. "There's absolutely no need to install screws through a side panel when everything is as it should be." I am not partial to leaving the possibility open for the granite installer to be able to accidently rack the cabinet, and neither are any of the many cabinet installers I know. It certainly does not hurt, or rack the cabinet when done properly, but you would rather jump to the conclusion of the rookie move you appearantly made. What speaks volumes, roof35, is your jumping to the only conclusion your lack of experience could think of... and, do not forget that the company that sells these cabinets, and deals with them every day agrees with me as to what is most likely.

I am a designer and also work with Abbey Carpet and Flooring in Petaluma CA. The basics about carpet: * There are many different fibers, but the common ones you'll see are polyester, nylon, smartstrand and wool. Both polyester and nylon come beck dyed or solution dyed. Smartstrand, a sturdy fiber, is solution dyed. Post dyed fibers mean that there are open dye sites for stains to latch to. Solution dyed means that the color goes through and through, like a carrot is orange all the way through, so there are no open dye sites to latch onto. Soiling happens to every surface because it's caused by the dirt that comes in on your shoes and feet. That needs to be vacuumed away or the cutting facets on the particles will begin to abrade the fibers and make the carpet looks worn and dirty. * Nylon and Smartstrand are resilient and will stand back up when vacuuming. While polyester fibers have become much cleaner during processing, they will lay down in traffic patterns over time and not pop back up with vacuuming. * If stain resistance is what you are looking for, then choose a solution dyed product. I recommend solution dyed nylon or Smartstrand. Liquids generally bead on the top of the carpet for quick removal - always dab - never rub because you'll abrade the fibers. * The argument about allergies is unfounded and the perception has changed through vigorous research. For a time, carpet was ripped out of schools for that reason, but is now being reinstalled. Carpet acts like a filter in the home. Particulates rest on the top of the carpet to be vacuumed away. Hard surface floors don't hold dust etc. so every time you walk through a room, those things get recirculated with every footstep or gust of breeze. * There are certain things to consider when choosing your carpet: where is it going and how are the rooms being used - A low, dense fiber on stairs is best; a rarely used guest bedroom might be a good place to save money and use a polyester. * Vacuums: The longer and softer the fiber, the more compression space when walking, so if lots of footprints bothers you then go with something denser. A soft carpet requires an adjustable vacuum and the ability to disengage the beater bar. There is no carpet manufacturer that will warrant their carpet if you use a Dyson - it's not on any manufacturer's list of recommended vacuums. Be sure to get the right vacuum for your material. An IRobot type vacuum has a different type of bristle movement that can unwind fibers. Disengage the beater bar when running it over a loop construction. * Generally speaking, carpet will be the least expensive installation and with basic care will easily last 15-20 years. Carpet generally uglies out long before it wears out. Warranties demand a professional cleaning every 18 months and it's a good idea... it keeps the carpet tight and clean. Think of your jeans stretching out between washes: carpet is fiber/material and it gets walked on every day, so keep it clean. *Always take carpet/flooring samples home to look at in your light. Color changes with light. A computer screen can't replicate what anything will look like in your space. *Shaw, Mohawk, Karastan, Phenix, Stanton, Engineered Floors are just some of the manufacturers producing solution dyed products. At www.shopamerock.com you can search by size, they have several that are 6"+ but only a few over 7 inches. Here is one from Amerock that is similar to your appliance pulls, but much thinner - Amerock Hardware Brushed Stainless Steel Bow Pull 192mm Centers - that comes in 7.5". http://www.shopamerock.com/amerock-hardware-brushed-bow-pull-192mm.html

Top Knobs has a site you can search by size and finish and they seem to have more than a few at "4.1 - 8" inches, but you have to look at each for the actual size & elsewhere for prices. I don't know about their quality though.

A quick search on one, showed a price of Listed under 8.1 - 12" are several in the "bar pull" and "nouveau" collection.

Jeffrey Alexander has pulls in assorted sizes (4.5, 5.75, 7, 8, 10, 13 inches, etc, although most are measured in metric) at interknobs.com. They aren't outrageously expensive. The website is not user-friendly but I think it would be worth your time to take a look.

Thanks everyoneÂthink IÂve narrowed it down on topknobs. What do you think? I do like to mix styles (spice of life).

This one is meaty and I really like but does not come in 8" so I would need to go with two handleÂs per large drawer.

I like the 1st and 4th. What drawer glides do you have? Are they builder-grade? Other?

Two pulls/drawer isn't an issue if you have good quality glides. If not, then I would stick with one per drawer.

We choose Kraftmaid Satin Chrome 5" (Style 205) because they somewhat matched our fridge handles which look identical to your oven handle.

I think they all look "purdy", so I'm of no help to you in that regard :-) But can I ask, where did you find that last one, the bin pull?

Buehl, order says Slide blum tanden plus blumotion full ext undermount. Order is meant to come today...so we shall see if I have everything. I like #1 best too but just wanted a centered 8" pull on 30" wide drawers (I think?). #1's largest size is 6". Maybe it would all look better with two pulls anyway...it's these little things that screw me up. ItÂs 3:45 and the truck is still not hereÂwhaaaaaaah

jbrig, The last pick was also found on Topknobs, listed under bin pulls. DonÂt know what they are like in person but what a deal.

If you haven't found THE ONE yet, keep looking. I gave up and put two handles per drawer and THEN found the bigger handles everywhere. I think one place was Lee Valley.

FWTW, I don't like two pulls on a drawer. I think it looks messy visually to have so much hardware on the cabs. Also, I feel like I have to compensate sideways as I pull for the fact that I'm not pulling from the center. Over time I worry that it might not be good for a drawer. From your pics, I like #1 and #4.

Do you think this pull is too Foo Foo? Tell me the truth...it's from schaub & Co and the finish is nickel/bronze.

Oh never mind, that isn't going to work either. I was trying to re-use my upper knobs and mix but I don't think I like the upper knobs I have with the new pale yellow cabinets...back to the drawing board looking for cheaper if they all have to be replaced.

Have you seen these from Hickory Hardware? They're the American Diner series, and have a similar bow shape as the Kitchenaid pull. They carry the 96mm size in my Lowe's but you can order larger sizes online:

I'm having the same problem - trying to find anything larger than 3" is impossible, especially at the store.

I am searching for a style/finish similar to yours in 5-7".

I'll post what I find this week. My KD might guide me in the right direction.
