Natural maple cabinets and hardwood floors. HELP!!!

We have maple cabinbets (natural, i guess) that are a pretty light color.

We are getting estimates for hardwood floor throughout the entire first floor.

We want a darker color for our floors. Have been looking at Cumaru and Tigerwood. Like the variations in color from plank to plank.

It just dawned on me the other day that i hadnt even thought about that cabinets and it not coordinating.

If we are set on these darker floors (which we pretty much are) am I going to have to figure out what to do with my cabinets? Will it look hideous if I left the cabinets the way they are for a while until we recover from the expense and headache of the floors?

How hard is it to stain or paint or whatever i would need to do??

Is it obvious I am VERY decor challenged?

I am of the school that firmly believes that all woods go w/ all other woods. It is that way in nature and no one complains!

Your darker floors will make the natural maple cabs look wonderful! They will be a sleek counterpoint to the darker floors. If you darken the cabs, you will loose the contrast and your kitchen will become a dark hole and you will wonder why you don't like working in there anymore. :) Too much matchy-matchy and your home becomes stagnate.

Are you going to replace all other wood surfaces in the house to match the new floor? Hmmmm? I didn't think so. You just need to think of your maple cabs as one HUGE piece of furniture!

Leave the cabs alone. While I don't always like a very dark floor with natural maple(contemporary cabs with Old World type floors)the flooring choices you have picked would be gorgeous with the maple!

Sold quite a bit of it for a few years. No problems to speak of. Generally longer lengths compared to other major brands(a plus). Manufactured by same Asian company that offers Garrison and another I can't think of. Ifloor also used to buy from the same manufacturer...same product..names...colors. Standard may be too smooth of a contoured scraped appearance for dogs unless stained darker.

Someone here has pictures of their natural red oak floors and their quartersawn white oak cabinets. It was a beautiful contrast!! Hopefully she will post to this thread because I can't remember who it was. I did the opposite...quartersawn white oak floors and stained red oak cabinets. Quartersawn oak is more expensive, but has a very different appearance and grain. It really doesn't even look like oak, except for the tone and color of the wood.

I prefer wall to wall, less chance for any water to easily work it's way under and damaging the floors. You will never know when that dishwasher or sink will overflow. Cut edges right below is an easy passage for water.

The lockers are in a space separate from the rest of the house so I would agree they will never match perfectly anyway so make the seat different maybe even a fun color or a pad on top in a fun fabric.
