Is This a Whisk? Have You Ever Seen One...

and know where I could find one that is silicone so I could use it in my non-stick cookware? I've had this more 100 years and much perfer it over a traditionally styled whisk. It's flat on the bottom and the spring type hinge at the top allows it to twirl and bounce.

Trickle towers are a type of filter, but the one you linked to is a new version to me. It looks like it would do a good job of filtering the water. The towers can be made from virtually any material, rocks, lava rock, plastic pots etc, anything that the water can slowly trickle down over. Usually the tower sits in the pond, the water, pumped up through the center to the top of the tower, then trickles down over the outside of the filter, where the bacteria grows. NOTE.The one you linked to, will have the water trickling through the filter media in the center. As the water flows down over the outside surfaces, it also gathers oxygen and then re-enters the pond. "Horton" Here is a link that might be useful: Trickle Tower information galore!

I have seen those at the different art shows in my area as well. They sell for a huge price. I have also seen an artist that was featured on one of the shows on HGTV. They showed how she made them. It was a really interesting clip. I wish I could find it. But she soaked the leather in water for several hours and then just molded it with her hands over a mask mold that she had created prior to the work. She would actually make a mold from your face or someone else that you wanted it done of.

My DM has had one like this almost as long as I can remember. She only uses it to beat eggs. To me it's easier to use a fork unless you have a lot of eggs to beat in one bowl and then I would prefer a whisk.

Yup, you've got an old-fashioned egg beater. I've got my grandmother's, and it still works great. Mine has a raw wood handle, not nice and black and shiny like yours, but then my grandmother was a little raw, herself.

I have something similar (called a spiral whisk) that came with my Black & Decker Handy Mixer (the original one), and I love it. I use it to make gravy, it mixes the flour/water in easily and scrapes the tasty pieces off the bottom of the pan. It also came with a "regular" whisk, which I use for eggs, etc.

CdeL, absolutely LOVE you! I do, I really do! :) Thank you soooooo much! Someone on the QVC cooking forum identified it as a "twirl whisk". I found them on Amazon but hadn't had time yet to do a good Google search for a silicone version (Amazon didn't have one). Everyone that has one and answered on the QVC forum agrees that they're the only way to go :) And here I was thinking I'd not find anyone else that had one (lol)

I have several of these and think they are wonderful. For eggs, you can wisk them even in a coffee cup if you are just doing a couple. Once you have used this style, you will wonder what you ever did without it!

I've had one (maybe 2-3) for years and love it too. Except, they always manage to rust a little bit, much like yours. But, it's a great tool. It's perfect for mixing batters and other thickened type of liquids, too. I bounce it up and down rapidly while moving it around the bowl - very efficient.

Okay, enlighten me. I would call this an egg beater, which is used to beat whole eggs and not egg whites, as I don't think enough air could be whisked into them.

As far a beating egg whites, when I was a kid we had a spoon shaped gizmo that had wire coiled around in the shape of a spoon that was quite effective.

My Mom had one of those which she used to beat eggs for scrambled eggs. We used to call it the "egg boinger" :-)

I've got one of those too, it was Grandma's. We just called it a spring whisk, but from now on I'm calling it an "egg boinger". LOLOL Mine is mostly used for getting the "dumplings" out of the gravy, it works great for that.

I'm glad to know there's a plastic/silicone version, thanks Claire.

To me, an egg beater is manual version of a hand mixer, the thing we used for making instant pudding when I was a kid. Seems like we made whipped cream with it at some point. Mom must have been trying to keep us busy or something because we had not only an electric hand mixer, but a stand mixer as well...
