HELP: I'm Ruining My Walls

karezz

I am repainting my powder room red and I have a faux painter adding a leather-type treatment afterwards. I am using a tinted primer and two coats of paint.

Here's my problem. I removed the wallpaper with no problem (the walls were sized prior to paper installation). I cleaned the walls and used a hand sander. I could "see" paste residue, but since the walls were very smooth I started to apply the tinted primer. Apparently, the primer caused the residual paste to thicken and get lumpy.

Where do I go from here? I have only primed the edges and corners so far and a 2 foot square part of the wall.

Do I wait until the primer is dry, then sand it off, rewash the walls, sand and start again??

Other advice? The primer is drying as I type!

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
