I have had a couple of those olive oil sprayers, including the Pampered chef one, and they both have clogged up in short order....I I dump out the oil, try to clean it without using soap to leave a taste and pour back in the oil....etc etc..
I have given up on them!
I pour a little oil in a custard cup, I have a silicone basting brush and I brush with that.
I also have an aerosol can....a product called "olivio" which contains olive oil, lecethin and propelland and lime flavoring.....it also comes plain and lemon flavored. I like it a lot but it's expensive to use in the quantities I would want for roasting veggies.
I like the brushing option. True you have the dish and brush to pop into the dish washer...but it beats messing with an olive oil sprayer which doesn't work. I even sent one PC sprayer back, they replaced it...and that one cinked out before the oil in it had been used up.
I may try cleaning it with Everclear...that alcohol should dissolve the oil sludge and not poision me nor leave a flavor behind....Think that would help?

I agree wholeheartedly with Linda. Those fillers all clog. I hate Pam's taste, but use the Canola & the Olive Oil sprays from Trader Joe's.

I have misto! I fill it with olive oil. (You can use any oil). If you learn how to use it properly(only fill half way, and pump a few times to build up pressure after each use), you will never buy ready made sprayers again. They all have added ingredients.

I'm with Linda and Ellen on this. I thought it was a great idea, but it clogged up on me, and I could never get it completely clean. The clogged oil eventually goes rancid. Maybe Everclear is the answer, but I don't have any of that.

When I am grilling vegetables, I put them in a lidded plastic container with the olive oil (and sometimes S&P) and toss them to get a light coating of oil. I like to use rectangular containers for this because they have flat bottoms. This also makes it convenient for taking the vegetables outside for grilling.

I tossed the one I had, from Wms Sonoma. I don't recall it clogging but it was more of a pain than it was worth, constantly needing pumping, the whole thing would end up dripping and getting so greasy that I stored it on a saucer, overall just not a pleasant thing to have around.

I read a few of the reviews on the one milwalt linked, but even the good ones seem to agree it's finicky. Don't fill more than half way. Release pressure after use. Not for me.

I do have to say that using a prep bowl and brush, or rolling veggies in a plate of oil, etc. does waste more oil which isn't cheap, so if I heard of a great sprayer I'd probably give it a shot.

I know someone who just uses a cheap plastic bottle sprayer and tosses it when it's icky. Not pretty enough for the counter top, though.

I've had two from Pampered Chef, neither lasted more than a month. the Misto I had lasted about 6 months and was unreliable. I considered the one at Williams Sonoma and decided against it based on cost.

I think I'd be inclined to try the "disposable" cheap plastic sprayer before I'd spend more money on things that require a lot of messing with or just don't work.

Thank you for sharing your experiences and saving me some money and headaches. I might try the cheap plastic bottle option. I already put vegies in a plastic bag w/ a dash of oil and toss to prep them for roasting, and maybe I'll just continue doing that.

Maybe I was wrong! I only have a 3 month experience with my misto. Now I won't be surprised if mine gets clogged up and ends up in trash soon. Thanks for the warning.

Yup, I've had a number of them, mostly gifts, and they all ended up useless. I'm with barnmoms friend, now I just buy a sprayer at the dollar store and toss it when it's done. I do try to buy somewhat smaller ones, but I'll take what I find. The smaller ones are often in the hair products section.

I have one (cheapo from local discount store) and it lasts about 3-6 months. I toss and replace as needed.
But I usually chop veggies for roasting and put in a bowl, drizzle with oil and toss with my hands. Spread them on a baking sheet and sprinkle with seasonings.
Yes, there's some oil left in the bowl and I have to wash it, but it achieves what I want.
I use the sprayer for a quick shot in a non-stick pan to saute onions, fry eggs, etc. Things that I need very little. I haven't had good luck with cheap spray bottles.
I saved a "Can't believe it's not Butter" spray bottle and filled with Canola oil.
We'll see. Only going a week or so.
Even so, if the bottle was free and I got another few weeks/months use out of it, that works for me!!!!!

I've had a Misto for a few years. 5 or so. It's never clogged up. Used it yesterday to spray some EVOO on some hamburgers. Like Walt said don't over fill it or the pressure won't build up.
