Hello! I'm New! I need Rose Suggestions! some pics too
Comments (11)>I want something that is hardy and somewhat resistant to disease- Maybe Crepuscule and new dawn?? Hi vlodom, I was just going through some similar decisions recently and rhonda in upstate SC convinced me to go with Crepuscle. She posted a picture of it growing at one year old that is incredibly enticing. Plus, it will do that well in less than ideal sunlight. And it has few thorns. Just a really nice rose, I think. I've been interested in New Dawn too. Someone has been working on me towards one of New Dawn's seedlings: Penny Lane. That one has really good shade tolerance, she said, and she loved its fragrance. I assume it will grow as well in the Piedmont as New Dawn will, though she was writing from Kansas. Some other rambling or climbing roses you might take an interest in: Madame Alfred Carriere, Dublin Bay, Red Fountain, Quadra, Laguna, Reve d'Or, Jaune Desprez, William Allen Richardson, Sympathie, Goldfinch, Creme de la Creme, Climbing Pinkie (especially the cultivar at the Antique Rose Emporium). If you'd really like a lot of bushiness as well as the ability to put out some long canes, then take a look at Ghislaine de Feligonde. It ought to mix well with Crepuscle too. Avoid Iceberg, including climbing Iceberg, if you want to try to avoid having to spray for blackspot on the east coast. I wanted Iceberg so much that I decided to give it a try anyway... but sure enough, all I'd read about it being more of a problem on this side of the country turned out to be correct. The best resource on the internet for investigating roses is HelpMeFind.com: http://www.helpmefind.com/rose/plants.php Good luck with your new house and yard! Best wishes, Mary Here is a link that might be useful: Crepuscle photo appears in this thread within Antique Roses Forum...See MoreNeed a New Vacuum
Comments (10)We have had a Miele for the past 6 years and have been very pleased with its performance. The model we chose, which has been discontinued, comes with a carpet cleaner attachment with a brush that spins. But unlike most of this type, the spin is powered by the suction, not a separate electric motor. Less complicated. That attachement is superb on wall to wall and oriental carpets. The separate attachment for hard floors also works very well. You can also get an attachment that is easily adjustable for doing both carpets and hard floors. We use that one when we're in a hurry and don't have time for the separate attachments. The other attachments, for dusting furniture, vacuuming upholstery, and getting in crevices are all thoughtfully designed and useful. But the most important feature of the Miele is its HEPA filter. Without one, you're just blowing some of your dust back into the air. WHATEVER BRAND YOU DECIDE ON, MAKE SURE IT HAS A HEPA FILTER. I would never use one with a HEPA filter....See MoreI really need some help - and thanks in advance!
Comments (36)hi there--i just wanted to say that we are about to put in a bigger window and eliminate the corner cabinet, and have an off-center sink. I really want the light and also the coutner space, as you said. It should be done in a week or so--I will try to post pix! Our stove/sink/window layout is the same as yours. also, I don't want to muddy the waters...but just wanted to throw in the idea that maybe no one ever uses your kitchen table in the current setup because of the peninsula, which blocks it off and makes it seem far away. The peninsula seems closer to the action and homier. But I think in your new setup you will have plenty of room for a table, if you want to consider going that route. A nice big table would fit on the wall where your hutch setup is going...if necessary you could make the french door one wider door, maybe with sidelights, to increase the usable space there. You could make up the lost storage from the hutch by having an island with more cabs, and maybe even have some hutch type cabs still on the wall behind the table, with a built-in seat in between. (sorry I am not drawing this like all these software whizzes!) keep in mind that the new island will be more in the middle of things than the current peninsula...and so will the people sitting there. Depending on your cooking style that may or may not be a problem. You could still have a spot for a couple of people to perch at the island, and actually eat at the table (and save your knees!). Just a thought....See MoreMy lawn really is in bad shape, I would love any help and suggestions!
Comments (8)HalloBlondie, thx for your ideas. The part of the lawn that is inundated with the coarse grass-like clumps is all we have in front of our townhouse. Probably 30' by 30', roughly. We did plant a gingko where the elm was but it will take many years to supply the same shade as the elm... We'll give your idea some thought; we'd be renegades, tho, vis a vis the adjoining neighbor's front yards (kids sometimes like to play all the way lengthwise across the the long span of lawns that extend across the front yards of the 5 townhouses...) If we really redo the whole space by adding shrubs, etc, it would kind of preclude that type of neighborhood play. I am wondering if yourself or anyone can ID the main clumps of stuff in my first pic and LMK how what can be done about it........See Morehawk307
