Foods you grew up *thinking* you disliked?
Comments (23)As a child I ate liver and onions, turnip greens and mustard greens, okra, eggplant, tomatoes. But no way, no how would I eat yellow crookneck squash. My parents had a garden and grew tons of squash. I can still remember sitting at the dining room table at my Grandfather's at Sunday lunch and refusing to eat the squash. Now, I could absolutely eat my weight in yellow squash....See MoreWhat's you favorite WEIRD breakfast food?
Comments (50)Chocolate chip pancakes, as invented by our Boy Scout Troop. In planning for a camp-out, they had forgotten to buy blue berries. The Scout cooking breakfast that morning grabbed a box of chocolate chips and dumped it into the batter. The taste was quite acceptable, but woe unto the dishwasher. The pancakes were cooked on a hot griddle over a campfire and wherever a chocolate chip touched the griddle, it left a black dot that refused to come off with normal amount of scrubbing. Comments (51)Eam, beachem, cpartist, and all who gave recipes for purée ing turkey, thank you! I didn't see them till now, but I know the caregiver made purée with the leftovers. Mom's sister popped in on the way to her son's, just as we eer sitting down, so she helped Mom while DH and I oversaw things (and ate!). The carrots, Cook's Magazines boiled carrot recipe (I know, I know, who needs a recipe for boiled carrots? I do.) came out soft enough that she could manage them just fine, yet just firm enough for everyone else. I passed on the sweet potatoes, it was one too many things. I used Mom's wedding china, her gorgeous silver, and the damask napkins. She didn't recognize any of it, but it color-matched the family room where we ate better than their dining room :) Dad was in tears at the table, it was his first time home since August. The house is his baby, he designed it with an architect, his own company built it, on family land. Probably our last Thanksgiving in that house. Time for new traditions....See MoreWhat do you least enjoy (or even dislike) about SAH?
Comments (67)One of my staff members is having a hard time, she’s about ready to retire, lives alone, children across the country, and we are really, really busy right now, so she’s stressed on all levels. Speaking personally, I love all aspects of WFH, but I will miss live music this summer. On an existential level, I'm terrified for and worried about how individuals - not corporations - are going to fare now, during the worst of the pandemic and after its over. I fear our way of life will be fundamentally altered, and not in the ways I want (my preferred altering would be women having full control of their bodies, ERA passed, stricter pollution/air/water laws, Medicare for all, UBI, immigration reform, all the progressive stuff), but with high unemployment, more poverty, more of a class divide, more inequality and more misery....See More- 2 months ago
